Smart LED Corner Lamp Alexa Ready

Smart LED Corner Lamp Alexa Ready

I was so impressed with this light after it arrived today that I ordered a second one. However, I soon discovered that Google Home cannot turn off the light. Actually, it /does/ turn off the light, but immediately turns it back on. Turning on the light is no problem.

After trying to troubleshoot the issue, I found out that this appears to be an issue for everyone and there is no apparent fix for it.

The light seems to work fine with Alexa and the Smart Life app.

Unfortunately, my home is automated with Google and I have no way of turning off the two lights with Google Home. I’m disappointed and wish I hadn’t bought the two lights. Otherwise, this is a great lamp deal.

I liked the light enough to set it up with the Alexa app on my phone and my Fire tablet. Everything seemed to be working, so I ordered an Amazon Echo Show from Woot to put in my bedroom. I woke up a few moments ago and attempted to turn the light back on through the Alexa app, but it would not come back on. The Alexa app said the device’s server was unresponsive. I then tried to use the bundled remote but it too did not work. I pressed the button on the base of the lamp, but it didn’t work either despite the fact that the green led showed that the lamp had power.

Finally, I pulled the power plug out of the lamp, waited a couple of seconds, and then plugged it back in. The lamp immediately came on in the proper mode and was responsive again to Alexa.

I guess there is a good reason that these lamps are on Woot clearance for a price less than half of Govee’s popular and almost identical product. Caveat emptor.

I am sad and feel foolish to have bought a second lamp and then an Echo Show after I discovered that it was impossible to turn them off with Google. I should have tested the lamp for a few days, but with Woot you never know when a product is going to sell out. I’m happy with most Woot purchases, but about 10% of the time I learn the hard way why products end up on Woot… an electric soap dispenser doesn’t work and is almost impossible to service, underwear fits weird, warmup pants look strange and fall apart quickly, this lamp, which is great in many ways, is very flakey and unreliable. Woot is always great at making things right and the vast majority of the time I get great deals, but experiences like this lamp are frustrating.

BTW, the product is a Lanmonlily RGBAI LED Floor Lamp. It uses the Smart Life app, which is easy to use and to link to Google Home and Alexa, but has the functionality issues that I have outlined. It’s worth commenting that the lamp has Bluetooth so your phone does not need to be on the 2.4 GHz wifi band to set it up, which can otherwise be a real pain with modern phones. The app has many RGB patterns to choose from. The lamp is bright and looks nice. To assemble it, you have to use microscopic screws and I found no assembly instructions.

Normally I hate RGB lights, however, for once, all the features I wanted in a light stand arrived, that I bought two. Been using Smartlife app for years and I have over 150 Alexa enabled devices, gizmos and gadgets. I did have 1 light pole freeze as I was switching between local mode/app mode and everything else like the “Flash” (so unplug and replug). My router can handle over 200 clients and I have 240 clients currently split across two routers daisy chained. I can’t stress how important having a router than can handle the numbers of clients you have. They all have to maintain an IP address connection even in DHCP mode.

Anyway, I tried to get greedy and get two more but woot servers stopped me at three total, so the third will be the backup quarterback if one gets sacked.
