How good are the refurbs from Sony? I am torn between this and BB where I can get the Geek Squad warranty which covers burn in. Additionally I have their total tech pkg so delivery and mounting are free.
I got one in November. Ultimately it turned out to be a good deal as I got a good panel and no obvious use or damage. I will say the box didn’t say TV or “this side up” anywhere so the delivery thought it was flat pack furniture or something. As it wasn’t Sony’s box, the unpacking wasn’t as easy and I was nervous about the short return and warranty period.
If you want a deal this is probably the best you’re gonna get. If you want piece of mind BB is gonna be the way to go as I was walking on eggshells worried that some sort of latent defect would show up. There’s always the open box ones if you want to try something in-between.
I’m not sure if this is what you were asking, but Sony did not refurbish these TVs, so they are not “refurbs from Sony.” That’s why you’re getting the Woot 90 day warranty and not a Sony warranty.
I bought a Samsung refurb LCD TV from Woot a few years back, and at the time had the opportunity to buy a Square Deal extended warranty for $250, so I did. It turned out to be a good move since the TV developed a display issue shortly after the Woot warranty expired, and I had to go to Square Deal to handle it. They first wanted to replace it with a new, but much lower-spec TV, and when I refused that, they refunded the entire purchase price of the set. That made it a $250 TV, and with the image flaws, I lived with it for a little while at that price, but had to replace it eventually.
Thanks to you both. That is helpful. The 90 day window is pretty sure. It will be a pain to mount where it needs to go over the fireplace. We have the BB package so it might make more sense especially since I don’t see any options for an extended warranty especially if this isn’t a Sony refurb.
I did look around at BB for open box options and only about $200 less for one in my area and it is “acceptable” condition. They also said they wouldn’t deliver it either even with the total tech pkg. So for saving only $200 and having to hang it myself, not worth it.
I have to say though at the current Woot price it is still damn tempting.
Yo I would like assume that returns from the manufacturer would be of outstanding quality but maybe I’m wrong.
Can you get a Squaretrade warranty on this open box tv?
