Soyo Freestyler Bluetooth Stereo Headset with Transmitter

Does anyone know about the sound quality of these? There are no specifications given. I want to know if they’re as good sounding as wired ear-buds for listening to music. And yeah, they do kind of look like marshmallows.

i am in for 1

Owned a pair once…gave them away. Poor sound quality, kept slipping. Oh yeah, and they make you look like you have large marshmallows coming out of your ears.

(I wonder if this is going to get censored. oh well.)

But I -DO- have large marshmallows coming out of my ears. Stay Puft ™, the Marshmallow Man is extremely envious of me. Y’see, he can only produce one marshmallow at a time 'cuz… well, think of chickens and eggs. Except he’s male. And you know how big marshmallows are.

Nonetheless, to be honest, I personally don’t worry about making a fashion statement or not: these just don’t look like they’d be terrifically comfortable. So I’ve got to independently agree with Picard1701’s comment.

What seems annoying to me is that people generally use BT headsets while driving or walking, in which case, does it seem safe/wise to have both ears covered? I’m all about multi-functioning gadgets, but this doesn’t seem as useful as it did at first glance.

But yet, stereo Skype… If one were sitting down, say, at a desk and had no worries of getting mowed down by a semi while crossing a busy intersection, seems like a pretty nice scenario…

In for 3 - these are an excellent gift idea!

Wonder if they work well with Windows Mobile 6.1. In this review they say it doesn’t work well with Windows Mobile 5.0, and I wonder if it comes from WM5 or from the bluetooth receiver itself.

I took one. Figured it is worth a shot for around the bedroom so as not to wake the room mates. It isn’t any secret that Bluetooth was never intended for audio transmition anyway. But that is what people WANT to use it for it seems.

It maybe… but you can’t waste 2 sponges on it. That’s for sure.

Forgive me for being a total ideeaught (ok, then, DON’T forgive me), but given the following line in the specs:

“Built-in microphone to use with bluetooth enabled cell phones”

if you’ve already -got- a cell phone, what is the purpose of using Skype?

Not that I know much about Skype, so flame away if necessary.

I don’t care so much about the headset - does anyone know if the transmitter will work with any bluetooth headphones? I just want the transmitter

So far I like mines that I got off buy.com though 75 cent more.

I do note, it’s light and nice to wear, I haven’t been able to test it with my PC but using it as BT Headphone and Bluetooth set works pretty well, lasted half of the day in almost full use, I wonder if I should pick another one.

I was walking [outside in public] around for almost the whole half of the day, I did think it was a little for cellular use, I used using VCast on my phone (VX9900) it was decent, slight tin on some songs. I did feel a little strange, and the wire that connected to each other did annoy me a little until I got it pat down. I was mainly going to use it more for PC since I find myself spinning in my chair and pulling the wires out of the PC, so wireless would be nice for me.

Will this work with my 4-pack of Vtech phones if I get the right adapter to go from 3.5mm to whatever the jack size is on the phone? It says it has a built in mic so I’d like to use it as a hands-free solution to talk on the phone.

It’s an open headphone, not a closed one so you should still hear some of the sound around you. You can always wear the right earcup (it’s the one with the mic) and leave the left one floating around, too, if you need to be absolutely sure that you’re going to ear every sound.

i previously owned bluetake headset similar to this and bluetake sounded good. Does anyone know how this thing sound? If it’s anything close to bluetake’s performance, then this is certainly worth the 23 bucks spent.

NO - the 3.5mm adapter only allows you to listen to music, not talk.
If you want to use these as a wireless headset you need a bluetooth-enabled mobile phone.

The purpose of the 3.5mm adapter is to allow you to listen to music from your MP3 player between calls.

Will these give me brain cancer?
No, but keeping the transmitter deep in your front pocket could give you another kind of cancer

I run daily on a treadmill, and it’s very annoying to have to hold my ipod while working out. Once I decided to put it down, and the wire yanked on the ipod and sent it flying…

Perhaps this will save me the money and trouble of buying a nano zune or ipod…

ugly as sin

You got that right. If these were a regular set of headphones with an over-the-head band, only wireless, I would be jumping on this like a duck on a junebug. As it is, meh.

The sound quality on these is pretty god-awful. I haven’t tried this brand out in particular, but in general bluetooth audio quality is carp. It gets squeezed into trash and noise in order to fit in the bandwidth, and has trouble with voice, much less full spectrum music.

Definitely would not recommend. A $5 pair of off-brand earbuds from the drug store will sound better.

What I can tell you is that I’m going to try to modify one of the 3 I got by fitting its electronics to a Sennheiser headphone I have - it should be easy (removing the original speakers and connecting the Sennheiser headphone to the printed circuit board in place of the previous speakers).

The tricky part is to physically fit the electronics in or over the existing headphone so that it’s not too ugly.
I may also have a problem with equalization as these may embed some sort of equalizer tuned to the original speakers, in which case I’d have to “reverse-equalize” that from my audio source. No big deal.

Anyway, $18 for a bluetooth headset AND a bluetooth transmitter is definitely a good price. I’m pretty sure that I could resell the bluetooth transmitter alone for more.
But I’d have liked to have an option to get this shipped with FedEx instead of Smartpost for $5 more or so. Woot, if you’re listening…

So is there a mike built into the headphones? Can I use it with Skype?
Not really sure about a mic being built it. The pictures and specs kind of give mixed info. Typically a 2.5mm jack will have mono sound and a mic. Usually you dont have a 3.5mm jack that carries audio to stereo speakers AND a mic. You always see headsets to be used with computers have TWO 3.5mm jacks so that both the In and Out can be stereo. I don’t see how this can possibly have a mic that can be used on your PC b/c the picture only has ONE 3.5mm jack. If you were to use this with a regular phone you would have to get a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter. So the purpose of this post was to say… I don’t know
