Question from an older non-tech parent - my 13 yr old son desperately wants one (but already has a Switch OLED). Besides being able to say he has the newest thing out there - is there any compelling reason why the cost justifies the slightly bigger screen and storage? Is the upgrade worth it? Thanks in advance (receiving eye rolls from my son as I type this) :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

It’s rarely if ever worth it to buy a console at launch as by the time there is a decent library of new games they often release a better revision (with a oled screen). I’d hope the 2nd revision adds more storage because the current storage on the switch 2 is abysmal at 256GB of storage.

You realize it’s just 2 switches, not a Switch 2, right?

It is a matter of taste I believe. The Switch 2 comes with 256 GB of internal memory, which is a significant step up from the OLED Switch’s 64 GB — and way more than the original model’s 32 GB.

The new Joycons are an improvement, the larger screen, and 4K are the big selling points.

I am still debating. I was going to wait for everything to settle down and get a better idea of the games coming out but with current events possibly changing pricing and availability, it might be the best time to buy.

It is a lot of money, about the same as PS5 and Xbox. Hard to do a side-by-side comparison.

The below article does a decent job, but it does seem to be written by Nintendo Fan Boys so keep that in mind.

That’s still an upgrade from the ps5 he got us.

It pairs nicely with the Panaphonics TV.

You mean the 2½ broken PS2s that were glued together?

It was an improvement over the Sumsang, at least.

I didn’t like how the Sorny tasted.

Yes, and don’t forget one of those ps2s was a George Foreman grill with PS2 written on it with dry erase marker.

That’s because you tried jumping into it.

Been thinking about this. My son is grown and can purchase his own switch. If the 13 year old version asked me, and I don’t want to be the Grinch here, but I probably would have asked:

Why do you need it? (New Mario Cart might be a good answer)

And “No”

Why am I consdering it? Mario Cart would be the primary answer and I am not sure the price justifies it, but all I have to do is tell my wife that there is a new Animal Crossing coming out. (Don’t think there is but I will blame Nintendo)

Still on the fence.

Did he bring pizza and donuts too?

I have no idea what this thing is but I’m excited anyway.
Maybe because I’m hungry for a pizza.

Sorta. Bagel-bites. They fit into the disc drive on the “ps5” though.

Refurbished bagel bites.

I found a box of doughnuts in one of the teachers rooms. The doughnut, but I was gonna take another one, until I got distracted with other food.

He’s a 13-year-old kid. Of course he wants the next big thing right away. When I was his age, I had the misfortune of saving my money to buy the Atari Jaguar at launch (what a waste of $250 that was…).

I’d say let him pay for it himself if he wants it at launch (you can even let him sell his current Switch and put that towards the price if so inclined), or he can wait till Christmas or a birthday. There’s no reason he needs it at launch. The upgrade will be worth it at some point, but not on day one.
