CPU Benchmarks

I have said this many times, but I love my Chromebook. Now that Skype for web is in Beta, I can do just about everything I can think of on my Chromebook. One thing I really enjoy about the Chromebook is that multiple users can use it with ease using their own credentials. I was working on a project in Google Drive at work and had to pass around my Chromebook to several of my employees to work on the document. It was a real lifesaver.

ditto

I bought this 2 weeks ago from Amazon for $300 (new not refurbished though), eventually price adjusted down to $270-ish because the price kept dropping daily for a few days after I bought it

The only downsides (other than normal ChromeOS/Chromebook downsides) I found so far are that the glossiness of the screen makes it not the best outdoors in the sun because of reflections, though because it is super bright it still works better than an dim matte screen like I was using previously, and the usb ports often don’t work (attached device doesn’t even power up) without a sleep/wakeup (simple as closing the lid and opening it) … not sure if this is a design issue or a defective unit. I find the storage space limited too, but that’s probably more my non-standard usage pattern

i hope you don’t have to use google docs at your company if you do i feel sorry for you.

Well, yeah, no need. You have no idea how customizable the Chrome OS can be!

There is WAY to much “contempt prior to investigation” sometimes…

I am typing on one of these now. I paid top whack at Best Buy early on after laying hands on one in the store.

It’s an excellent Chromebook. The display is really superior. The usage experience is delay-free, which is what Chromebook is all about.

The biggest down side is that the screws fall out, and Toshiba does not step up to support it in any helpful way – not covered by warranty, pay to mail the whole unit back, etc. Google it: there is a network of people mailing each other screws via SASE. I just discovered yesterday that I am missing two screws!

Another possible down side is that the charging connector is quite insubstantial. A couple of good cord yanks, and you could be in the repair business.

I am on the fence about buying another one of these, now that I know I am in the market for M2.5x6mm screws and LocTite, but it’s good enough that I am on the fence.

This guys number one choice (computerworld reviewer that I follow)…

The powering issue is a feature to enhance battery power.

Here’s a look at the best Chromebooks you can buy right now and why I think this is the one to get for most people:

This is the #1 Chromebook I recommend to most people. In fact any time offers like this come up I share it and have friends/family that buy one and rave about it later. For a casual computer user that is looking for something for general web browsing, media consumption, and light document creation you cannot beat one of these under $200. Amazing screen, nice loud speakers and no user maintenance at all.

seems to do everything i need just fine. collaboration is good. you can suggest something better that costs the same?

Been on the fence for a while on Chromebooks, but when I saw this deal I immediately went and grabbed my credit card.

Sold out while I entered my biling info.

Sad Saturday.

Great buy!

Still have the first acer that came out, replaced it with this unit a few months back, only due to the superior ips display and increased screen size.

Would purchase the new 15.6 ips acer if it had a backlit keyboard, may anyway.

Works well on home wifi, even outside.
Hotspots from my mobile with ease.
Casts entire screen to TV using chromecast.
Prints wirelessly with no drama.

Have a new Asus windows unit with all the bells and whistles. i7, video card, B&O sound, 15.6 Full hd ips, dual lit keyboard, aluminum build, blah blah. It collects dust.

Lastly, not adapting well to touch pads, though this one works well. It plays nicely with a blue tooth laser mouse, when needed.

I work for a large hospital system and we use the latest Microsoft Office. Google docs would work fine for at least 99% of the people all of the time. Less than 1% would require the more robust features in Excel, and Access is missing on the Google side. The people doing the real database queries will usually use a more robust tool than access anyway. I think you could save a large company lots of money using Google docs for the majority of your employees and restricting full versions of MS office to those people that actually use/need certain features not available in Google docs.

Great deal on a great machine, so not surprised it sold out. Purchased this new from the Mothership for my daughter in April for $300. It was totally worth it, and even moreso at this price. Congrats to those that got it… well done.

So Skype for Web will work on a Chromebook? WHERE do I try it?

Insomnia paid off for me early this morning.

I have been toying with the idea of picking up a Chromebook for years. (still miffed that I wasn’t selected to get the Cr-48 back in 2010…which is probably why I’ve held off)

Anyways, this seemed like a great value, so I pulled the trigger.
