Toshiba e405 Pocket PC with Windows Mobile 2003 Pro

i’d buy one, if i used pdas

My 500mhz desktop computer barely plays a mpeg4 file. How can a 300mhz
computer do it?

Also doesn’t playing a 700mb file require a memory card of at least 700mb? which
means a 1gb card right? And then how do you get the movie on to a memory card?
Do you store one movie per 1gb card and just carry a couple of them with you when
you want to watch some movies on a trip? Seems pretty impossible to do.

It’s all about the graphics card. Your processor has almost nothing to do with it.

Well, except for decoding the mpeg in real time.

But it’s only decoding a 320x200 or so image at a low bitrate. And if it’s encoded to Windows Media Format, it plays pretty nice. Remeber also that on a PocketPC the process is doing nothing else except playing the file; it’s not running a shell or all kinds of background tasks, etc., it’s running out of memory so no disc to spin, etc.

Completely false. MPEG 4 decoding is usually done 100% at the CPU. Since modern graphics processors are really powerful, they can assist the decoding, they can assist this process and save 10-30% of CPU power. This was more true (and useful) back in the start of the PC DVD Video playback era, as the ATI accellerated iDCT GPU’s (Rage 128 and on) could help a 266-300 CPU manage DVD playback, with the proper software. However, modern GPU’s don’t have specialized hardware for Mpeg4 playback, but a combination of drivers and software utilizes some of the modern GPU resources to assist decoding. With the speed of current CPU’s this is a rather useless feature.
The only way a graphics card can really affect video playback is if it does not support a video overlay mode (we are mostly talking about a pre-1997 card here), when the video rendering has to be in software mode.
Anyway, to answer andre’s question, when someone talks about a movie on his PDA, he does not mean a high resolution DivX. The Toshiba’s resolution is 320x240. If you convert your videos to that resolution, you might fit a movie in a 256MB card and have the CPU power to decode it.

Reconditioned is usually better than new, because they got it back once already and lost money. They dont want to reapir it again. [

Same hardware, 405e includes some photo-editing/managing software that the 400e lacks.

People that YELL in forums aren’t allowed to buy the 405e. Its Toshiba company policy.

I know that it is 5:00 AM, but I am still first. I just got my first item from woot that is. And it is a cherry of a PDA isn’t it.

Notice that the person’s NAME is in ShifStick mode. It’s their style. We need to fix him/her.

PPCs have always intrigued me. Looks like a great woot!, but I have a Palm T|T and I’m happy enough to save 100. It’s sold anyway.

Tomorrow, wooters!

EDIT: woot! should script the boards so that “woot” is always purple… Hmm…

Next time you post a product that’s reconditioned and not new you should be more upfront about it!!![/size:aa7bc7e171]
There is nothing on the front page about this being a reconditioned product!!!
I like too use exclamation points!!!

I take it this does NOT come with the 1gb card? When I read it last night, I almost bought it thinking that it did. Now that I go back and re-read the description I don’t see any mention of it.

I wiish it came with the memory. Oh well, i’ll have to think about it a little more.

I posted an auction on ebay yesterday of my entire dvd collection. Feel free to check it out:

Sweet Woot! Too bad I’m poor :frowning:

I think it’s funny- there was some guy who said “How about posting things that will go in 10 minutes instead of 10 hours?”. RIght buddy - boy that would suck… to be able to get something good…

Going to google some information in regards to the item and will edit my post so others can get quick information on todays woot

thanks a lot for your work on this. it’s nice to see someone making good use of the first post. :)
Amen. Useful decision-making information is always welcome. Thanks for the effort, edwardb.

Ok – you posted this 6 hours and 45 minutes after it was put on sale. The products are still available. It’s not like you’re scrambling to get your order in so fast that you don’t have time to read the information about the product. woot! has never put the condition of a product in the main title and spec blurb (that I can recall) - you have always had to click on more info to find out if it was new or recert/refurb. woot! does a pretty good job representing the condition of the products.

It seems like you are the one that wants everyone else to change, and instead of making a single mouse click, you would rather make woot! do that for you?

noob.

NOTE NOTE the expanded picture shows a box that says reconditioned. :stuck_out_tongue:
