On July 17 I decided to spend my day trying to win a bag of crap in the famous woot birthday woot off.
In the last hour or so, SHEZAM I won one, I thought, woot declined my payment, for the first time EVER.
So….I re-check my info, all seems good.
Back to the the woot off. And….BINGO, I’m in, I got another one! ( so I thought). WRONG, woot declined my payment again!
Now I’m pis#$&$ off… the woot off ended, all day spent waisted!
An email to Woot customer service, no resolve, they said there was something wrong with my account info.
BUT:
Here is the kicker, today I order a six pack of furnace filters, and , walah! Sale goes through noooo problem. Same account settings, I changed NOTHING!
Leads me to believe there is preferential treatment in regards to giving out bags of crap. What other explanation can there be?

Sorry that you didn’t get a BOC. My guess is this was a technical issue. I doubt, but could be wrong, that there is any shenanigans going on about who gets a bag of odds and ends.
On the flip side you really are a winner for not being able to secure one of these.
See ya’ around and hope this doesn’t put you off from the fun stuff here.

For what it’s worth, myself and others have had the same issue in the past. (Admittedly, not just for B0Cs, but other items also.)

I don’t think it was anything personal.
I had the same issue with a couple of the $1 event-items and the 17¢ shirts this week (“payment denied”) - if I logged out of the account, cleared the data, and went back in (or signed in on a different device), it worked fine. I think it’s a bug when there’s high traffic in the system, when a BOC/special sale item comes up and goes through the VOP, and my regular address info doesn’t come up… (just my theory, since I have not had it happen on a regular sale).

Woot had a fair number of technical issues this week – the VOP wasn’t working right, the servers kept breaking, etc. They honestly don’t play favorites on who gets BOCs. When the servers get swamped (which they do every times a BOC goes on sale) things can go wonky.
Sometimes ThunderThighs shows graphs of the spikes in site activity when BOCs are sold and it goes way, way up each time, which can lead to the technical issues. When regular things are being sold there is no spike, which means things are less apt to go wrong.
Think of the site like a car – when you’re just using it normally, things are usually fine. But if you go at high speeds, the engine can overheat, tires can blow out leading to bad crashes, etc. BOCs force the site to go full out for short periods and things can and do break when that happens, no matter how much effort they put into avoiding them. Even professional racer car drivers have accidents.

Their servers are garbage. Every time i get through the vestibule it logs me out of my account. Robbed 3 times today.

Hi there. If you’re using Amazon login, that’s owned completely by Amazon. We just pass and receive info through their widget.
For BOCs, we don’t charge shipping so we could make it fair for everyone. There’s no benefit to logging in with Amazon.

Don’t feel too bad! For the entire morning the only thing I could see on the home page of the app was this:
I emailed support around noon and then had to go to work.
Needless to say, I did not win a BOC. Or, any item from the Woot-off for that matter.

NOTHING for sale on ANY website is worth spending a whole day or getting pants on fire about getting it.
