WE Reviews:
1 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma Valley, Caton Vineyard
Rating: 86
Tastes its best now, with jammy blackberry, cherry and raspberry flavors, and a rich overlay of oak. The tannins and acids are soft and gentle
**1 2009 Ballfield Syrah Sonoma Valley, Caton Vineyard **
2008 Review - Rating: 84
Good, rich notes in the blackberry, currant, dark chocolate, roasted meat and black pepper flavored wine, with its firm tannins. Loeses points for excessive softness and hear, which gives it a rustic feel. Drink now.

Dear Woot: love the iPhone Wootstar app- one little thing- you’ll want, perhaps to include the list of states in which the wine can be bought in the info- otherwise one must go to the browser, sign in and check the list before one knows if one can buy the wine for sale- this defetes the entire purpose of the app. Just a thought.

Bummer, Ty fan, but not a Syrah fan.

Ty used to be an automatic buy until I bought the blend that has 62% Syrah (26% merlot, 6% Cab and 6% Petite Sirah). I assume it was the Syrah that turned me off. Someone tell me if you think I am wrong. I have a TY Syrah but have not opened it.
I’m a fan of TY’s. I think he has been an awsome contributor to the Woot community, but based on my experience with both of these wines I belive the 86 & 84 are reasonble ratings. If one were to assume that the price (plus shippping) translates into $30 for the Cab and $25 for the Syrah, there are just soo many great options at these price levels that I think Ty has officially priced himself outside of my QPR comfort level with this offering.

It’s still 40% off retail but yes, he has raised his retail prices. I read somewhere that the price of wine is supposed to go down this year, I guess he’s bucking the trend!

You may want to get the deal for the Cab and give the Syrah another chance- I have found that when Petit Sirah is mixed into the Merlot I often just don’t like the result- it sounds like the princess and the pea- but I swear I can taste competing berries or something? Try the TY Syrah with any cheese, a nice soft cheese, it’s fab. In for 1 myself, even though the Cab will have to wait until red meat night.
Sigh. I Love red meat night!
Based on all the TC love around here I got the Tytanium a couple of months back and wasn’t impressed: I found it dull and one-note. Am I missing something or did I get an off bottle?

I’d probably be in if these didn’t need to sit for another 2-5 years. I’m still loathe to open my bunch of 2008 TyC bottles.

He’s been raising his prices for a little while…and the increase has found its way to Wine Woot too. I miss when these were $20/bottle here and I definitely bought a lot more of his wines then than I do now.

I’m lucky to live in Colorado. Although I’m only a 2-month wooter, I don’t think my state has ever been excluded.
“Tis a privelege to live in Colorado”

Neither is Texas, usually. That is one good thing about living in a populous state with a bunch of wineaux, present company included …
Makes jumping thru all the hoops that wineries have to jump thru much more financially rewarding and worthwhile. Smaller states with an equal number of regulatory issues just may not be worth it, particularly for small or start-up wineries.
Jump on the FreeThe Grapes! Bandwagon, one and all!

I didn’t enjoy the first 06 TyT I got in 09 ~~ way too hot, even with aggressive and extended decanting, to get ANY notes. Finished the bottle over 3 days before it was tolerable, but i had hope. Since then it’s gotten progressively better, in balance, on the nose, on the palate, etc. I can’t wait to enjoy the next bottle, but now I’m starting to hoard it because I’m running low. What to do, what to do?!?
That’s not to say you didn’t get an off bottle; but, I would suggest laying it down a year or so, and trying again with an open mind & clean decanter.
