Wow, no shortages of choices in this Woot blender event. Choice overload!
After blowing thru a lot of less expensive blenders we finally spent the money on a Vitamix. Seems rock solid and far better made after about a year of ownership.
But take care of that blender pitcher!
Apparently Vitamix stopped selling separate blade kits (or only sell to commercial accounts?) like other brands do. So if the pitcher breaks or the blades dull, you gotta throw the entire assembly out and buy a likewise pricy complete replacement pitcher/blade assembly. This is the sole issue we have with Vitamix. Surprisingly un-green behavior by Vitamix in this ever-so-green era. Profit over green.
… and no way do we accept the lame excuse, “but safety” (of end users to properly screw on their own blade assembly). There’s a design problem if it isn’t easy.
Yes, I’ve heard that before. There is someone who managed to get a replacement blade asmbly and changed it himself. Found it somewhere in the reviews. Vita only allows professional companies to change their own blades.
Just FYI, if you go to their site (Vitamix.com) and sign up for the newsletter, they will send you a coupon for your first purchase and free shipping. They also put the cannisters on sale about every 3-4 months so it 's possible to get a new pitcher for possible under $99.
