What is growing in your yard?

I am not ready for a brown, boring landscape.

Mums. The answer is mums.
And better watering habits.

Tried to take better photos of the tiered garden plot.

Lower portion wall along sidewalk is mostly mint gone wild, Crocosmia plants nearly done for Summer and other plants. Would need huge overall to get soil good for veggies or better flowers.

Hubby for scale at the upper portion where we garden and the carport section.

In coming month more mint will be cut back (bees :honeybee: are loving the flowers) and take down veggies once done. Unsure what to do if any in rainy season.

Beautiful house and yard! I love that it is elevated off of street level.

A butt ton of winged ants were covering my lawn today. Apparently this is called a “nuptial flight”. Bad day for flip-flops…

Is there decaying tree roots or stump? I think we seen that a year or two ago across the street. Bajillions in a cloud.

Not where I saw them. There is a tree line behind the house, though. The sun was setting and I could see bunches of bugs flying in the air. They seemed to be all in the grass that still had direct sunlight hitting it. Just a big ant love fest.

I didn’t get any footage of my own, but it looked like this.

The closer I looked, the more I saw. Made me feel itchy. Had to go take a shower.:slightly_smiling_face:

Have you considered lighting your lawn on fire and starting over?

I had no idea what they were - one day a few summers ago those things emerged by what seemed like the thousands from tiny holes in my gravel-over-sand driveway! Totally gross.

Yeah, it’s pretty shocking to witness. And then you realize they are underground beneath your feet all the time and you just don’t see them. :ant:

Anyone know what this is/was?

Just an everyday paper wasp.

And what looks like a human hair.

Thank you! It had been in my yard. It landed on me, and I waited patiently for it it fly away. I thought it had flown away and I went inside. Then it stung me. First sting ever for me. At least I know now that I am not allergic.

1st stings only set you up for allergic reactions the next time. Be careful if you have powerful reactions to other stings/things.

When the ground thaws and says Early Spring! Then the temps hard freeze you at 22°. I didn’t think I would get anything but crappy burned foliage!
Woohoooo!
