Controversial take, but The Eagles.

Most of them had successful music careers before forming the band & Joe Walsh was basically a free agent.

Also, arguably, The Black Crowes. Same situation with Marc Ford, but the Brothers Robinson weren’t as successful prior to the band forming as members of The Eagles were.
