Yamaha TSR-7850R 7.2-Channel Network AV Receiver

Yamaha TSR-7850R 7.2-Channel Network AV Receiver

Interesting. My Yamaha TSR-5790, which I bought via Woot!, The HDMI ports stopped working on the past week. Hmmmmmm.

The recover I just bought was delivered today. Bad timing.

Ha, I just bought a Pioneer VSX934 7.2 receiver last week! Looked for a Yamaha, but couldn’t find one that met my needs. This TSR7850 would have been perfect. Too late.

Anyone know why the non-refurbished TSR-7850 7.2 has a removable power cord, but the unit here has a hard wired power cord? Is the back picture shown here on Woot! correct?

Has to be the wrong picture. I have a 7850 from Costco. Definitely has removable cord.

It looks like the 7850 has a removable cord but the 7850R might not?

Guess you didn’t look real hard…

My thoughts too - I can’t imagine what in the refurbishment process would make them change from removable cord to non-removable cord - it would have be an entire chassis or back plane change in order for this to happen. It’s not a deal-breaker - just made me question the accuracy of the rest of the picture.

I can’t speak much for this unit other then it seems lacking in hookups, but my RX-V2600 I got back in 2006 still impresses me even today.

is there any benefit to a removable cord vs hard-wired? I actually think the removable might be easier to work with but could I missing something?

This would be the first real thing I’ve bought on Woot. What are return policies? I can’t find anything about warranty on the page

It is amazing how frequently that happens across AVR brands. Happened to my $800 Pioneer Elite.

A removable power cord is a nice thing but once the AVR is fully installed, it likely matters not. The HDMI ports will fail before the power cord on any Brand AVR.

In this case, it is likely to support multi-country sales distribution due to different wall power.

I just purchased the Denon AVR-X3500H two months ago when I kept going back and forth between it and this specific Yamaha receiver. I do get more inputs with my Denon but won’t use them all or even all that are in this receiver. That said I would have saved myself $300 had I waited another couple months.

Every time this comes up on Woot for $259… and every few weeks when it goes on sale at Costco for $100 off $489, so $389, I ponder seriously buying it.

FYI, AVS Forum readers seem to like Yamaha reliability.

These are clearly buyers remorse Costco returns, so they’re likely “as new” condition and that Yamaha 1-year warranty builds confidence vs. a brief 90-day Woot warranty.

So is $130 more at Costco worth it? If you use the Costco-Citi credit card, the warranty goes to 2-years. And I believe, unlike for TVs, Receivers are not subject to Costco’s neutered TV 90 return policy. And you know it is a brand new, un-hacked installation unit… on the other hand, if Yamaha fully tests returns (doubtful?), these Woot units might be more fully vetted.

Hmmm, so on the fence…

Hi, Since this item is factory refurbished, it comes with a 1 Year Warranty provided by Yamaha. You can find additional details about that warranty here: https://usa.yamaha.com/files/AV_REFURBISHED_2016_b04b73b876944ffa104ac1f424a15205.pdf

All Woot purchases also come with a 30 day return policy. Here’s the info on that:
“You may return most purchases within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. If the item being returned is not damaged or defective, we’ll deduct the prepaid cost of return shipping from the refund. Once the item is received by Woot!, the refund will be applied.”

Hope that helps.

Thank you. So that document doesn’t really say whether it is “fully tested” - simply that it will be covered if defective.

Yamaha Refurbished Stock items have been inspected by Yamaha, and, if necessary repaired or reconditioned by Yamaha.

Does anyone know if this can be turned on through Alexa? Does the voice control do more then just the volume?

Same price I paid for it here in December. Pretty happy with it so far, sounds good, lots of features, use the musiccast app to get it connected to Alexa and what not. Definitely worth the price. Costco is STILL selling this exact same one for $490.
