Every time I see these surveillance camera deals there are more cameras…guess you can never have enough cameras to watch (all) your neighbors

For $40 more you can get the 16 camera version on moofi. Why would you buy this?

Not 16 camera, 16 CHANNEL DVR. Also, for the $40 more, also expandable to 2 TB.

A note on resolution…

While systems like these are decent for deterring crimes and letting you know if people are in various areas, they are not high resolution enough to do things like read license plates on cars, actually see what currency bills were taken out of the register, make out the face of a person in the distance, etc.

Those movie magic, CSI like enhance features don’t exist.

I am always surprised when a customer asks me to go review their DVR and try to ‘zoom in’ on the image so they can get detail that doesn’t exist.

Pity this isn’t a smaller, cheaper kit.

I need to find the jerk who is letting his (or her) dog poop on my lawn.

There’s one power supply for the whole system. Each camera is wired with a custom video & power lead @ 60’. If it’s DC, you probably can’t extend it too far, so you’ll have 8 cams in a pretty small area.

Has anyone seen the connector(s)?

This is great, I needed it to start my ghost hunting business! Who you gonna call now?

Who will watch the watchers I wonder?

So, since I’m an RA, this could count as a business expense? I gotta keep an eye on my residents somehow…

Besides the 4 pictures woot has, no I haven’t seen the connectors.

I bought a system like this to watch my crazy cat lady neighbor feed the pigeons, but the pigeons chewed the camera wires up to build nests on my roof.

It appears one power block provides the power to all the cameras which is pretty typical for these. Not sure what gauge cable they are using for the run so hard to determine the cable resistance, but in a worse case scenario if you need a really long run and have power near the camera it would be easy enough to splice your own DC power to the individual camera. They use pretty easy to find DC Power Coaxial connecters, and dedicated power transformers are cheap enough.

I usually have more problems with analog signal interference than with power when doing longer runs with these. I get wavy lines going up and down the screen, ghost images, and the like. When routing the camera cables try to stay away from high current electrical devices etc.

EDIT: Here is a link to a replacement adapter at newegg, it also has some closeups of the connecters. It is 12V, 5A.

Don’t count on this for outdoor use. Sure, it works fine but the IR attracts spiders and bugs. Now I’m saving up for those ‘dome’ style cameras to keep out the insects.
This could be a great system for all indoor cameras and could be great for retail, but I put my cameras outside and now they’re full of cobwebs.

I don’t need them… But I want them!

It’s not always the neighbors you have to worry about, as this family found out the hard way. It didn’t end well.

Was just helping my friend install a similar system last week and he was happy to pay this same price for only 4 cameras. After we checked the coverage, he decided to return and exchange for an 8 channel model.

Unfortunately, as others have indicated, the resolution seemed very low unless the face was close. But, if you at least have a make, model, color and time, you might stand a good chance of catching the perp before it’s too late.

I own a retail store that currently has 4 dummy cams in it.
This would be a nice upgrade and also I just hired 2 new guys.
