So this thing has a total of 9 USB ports? 2 in front and 7 in back?

I wondered the same thing - appears to be 6 in the photo. 2 front, 4 back

The extra 3 usb ports are probably for the usb headers on the motherboard…that’s my guess.

I have an acer that was pre-installed with vista and downgraded to XP without any problems. The Drivers I needed were on the Acer Web site.

I bought one of these from woot.com about a month ago. The machine isn’t bad for $250. I had to wipe Vista and put XP on. The driver list was posted on the woot.com site and was a big help to me. I was able to get XP drivers for everything.

Here is the list:

sure about that link? makes my computer hang and can’t load it in. am interested in the XP drivers.

Like they control the refurbs. Pbbth! :stuck_out_tongue:

A geek woot! This makes me giggle. I would giggle with more glee if I didn’t have my money tied up in laptops right now, because I’d buy this puppy. But I’m still tickled that this woot is aimed at geeks and techies who aren’t afraid to tinker in their PC’s innards.

yeah link is good, that’s what I posted before was just too lazy to find it and link

If you would look befor you speak you would see that you can find a used mac mini for $400 or less or even a used mac book pro 2 gig ram and intel dual for $600 of less.

I guess you’re getting closer but you’re still talking about a machine that’s 60% or 140% more expensive than what’s being sold here.

Does anyone know how many or what kind of internal parts this thing has? I’m thinking of building a medium end gaming machine and that I could probably just slap 2,3,or 4 gigs of RAM, install Vista 64, and put in an 8600 or something, and this should run fine for what I need.

Yeah, that’s probably why he said “it’s worth the extra” in the first place.

I think that Woot doesn’t have a good handle on their audience if they think that people will buy this and then spend the money to put in a better graphics card so that it can handle Vista. A much better idea is to install an operating system which doesn’t have stupid requirements. Preferably a free one.

Um, why would you think woot has anything to do with installing an OS?

Woot: Take boxes in, update web site, mail boxes out.

See how that works?

For you West-Coasters…
How cool is it to see that w00t basically works exactly the same as In-N-Out Burger…
;-p

There was a time when Athlon 64 Meant something good… that time has passed… this is last generation technology, but it doesn’t mean it totally sucks.

if you’re looking for a cheap computer, a dorm room computer, a computer for kids, a first computer for someone, a computer for word processing and/or internet, or just something to tinker around with, this is perfect.

but be warned, an alienware this is not.

Do yourself a favor and get a copy of Windows XP if you have any intention of using this (not beating on vista, but 1. this is a vista-capable machine, not built for vista and 2. given the specs you’re better off not learning the horrors of what Home Basic really means.)

Good buy, just know what your getting into…

From tiger direct’s listing and pictures of this product. Looks like a AM2 processor, 4 slots for ram for a total of 4 Gigs, 2 pci slots, and slot for pci-e pci-16 graphics cards…Also looks like a nice case for the money with screw-less drive bays. should work just fine.

Why don’t we go to all the people looking at $200k houses and tell them that it’s worth the extra to buy a nicer place for $320k or $480k?

What person looking at a $250 computer or a $200k house doesn’t know that there are much better products out there?

Would make a great Media Center with this distro of Linux, but for those of you who want to use this as a computer for general computing, there is PCLinuxOS 2007. You don’t have to install it to see if it will work on this system, just use a Live cd distro, see if the system is compatible and if you like, hit install…no more “windows and gates”.

You’ll probably need a better power supply.

That’s funny because I just asked a computer wiz what kind of computer I should get and he said an Acer. Are you a computer wiz?
