Some newbie got one in the first half hour…and none sold since!
Gets hot enough to melt your little
off.
And 8GB high end mobile GPU just to run a 1920x1080 display?
Why do all of these expensive gaming laptops have trash built in resolution anyway?
2 minutes of searching and I found a better spec’d laptop (1440P display and 1TB SSD) for $400 cheaper at Best Buy
I’m sure I could find an even better deal if I tried a little bit harder.
Probably to run an external display. Just a guess.
“a better deal” There’s more to what makes one laptop better than another than just the spec sheet, so your better may not be someone else’s better; it’s subjective to a point. Build quality, total wattage, TDP, cooling efficiency, upgradeability, etc. come into play. I recently bought an X17, despite the opportunity to save a lot if I wanted the Acer but the Dell was a better fit for me; the Asus M16 was the most tempting alternative. I was also tempted by the MSI Z16P which has had some great pricing lately, but that’s a really good example of a laptop with fantastic specs that isn’t great for gaming as the i9 and 3070ti don’t get enough power.
That said, I bought an x17, not an x15… (3080ti, bigger screen, 2160 display, 32gb ram standard, i9) for $1900 from their refurb store… excessive backlight bleed but only an issue with a totally black screen at high brightness in a very dark room.
With the x15, ram isn’t upgradeable and 16GB is borderline for a gaming laptop in 2023. You can also find better deals on the Alienware website if you check it frequently… same model as here was down to $1500 within the last month and they’ve had 1440 in the refurb store for as low as $1300 recently (although 1080 is sufficient on that screen size). Not knocking this deal, it’s a good relative price savings compared to what it usually costs, but yes you can do better and I think Woot needs to knock a couple hundred off.
Reasons not to buy… small track pad, can’t add ram, limited ports, 21:9 aspect ratio, there’s a higher DPI screen if you watch for deals.
Reasons to buy… solid frame with little flex, beautiful finish, nice keyboard with per key RGB and great feel, four fans and decent cooling allowing it to be pushed a little harder, two m.2 slots, no ethernet but ships with adapter.
Not the same as the Dell unit. The Dell unit is better because it has a 1440p display, this is only 1080.
Thanks for the link! The one on Dell’s site also looks to have an i9 instead of an i7, so unless I’m missing something, this Woot offer doesn’t look like much of a deal at all.
