I ordered one of these based mostly on the description. It’s labeled “Amazon Essentials Men’s Regular-Fit Short-Sleeve Button-Down Chambray Shirt”.

Imagine my surprise when it came today with a non-button down collar. I should have looked at the pictures more closely.
These are definitely very poorly labeled and described. They are clearly button-up shirts and definitely not button-down shirts as you noted.
All button-down shirts are button-up shirts, but only button-up shirts with buttons on the collar are button-down shirts. Shame on the Amazon product people; these types of errors are so easily avoided.
Partly my own fault for not reading carefully. It does mention a spread collar in the text and the photos don’t show collar buttons. But still…they called it a button down shirt!
I’m still likely to keep it. The fabric seems reasonably heavyweight. Hope it doesn’t turn out to be a wrinkle fest.
I briefly read some of the Amazon reviews and I was surprised that most didn’t mention anything about the collars. One person mentioned the button-down error, but decided to keep them regardless. Most seemed satisfied with their purchase. Hopefully, you will be too.
I am one of those rare guys today that prefers a button-down or Oxford collar; perhaps a result of entering adulthood and the business world in the 1980s when they were in fashion.
Perhaps it’s also that with spread collars, my fat neck tends to just flatten them out…

It washed beautifully. Not ironed-flat but perfectly acceptable. Obviously, I’m keeping it since I washed it.
