Apple iPod Touch 6th Gen - Your Choice

Apple iPod Touch 6th Gen - Your Choice

According to the link, this model has the 3.5mm headphone jack.

I’m so tempted to get one of this. I have a 6th Gen iPod Touch already, but the battery life on it is about 15 minutes now. It was never good to start with, but I just don’t need an iPhone alongside my Android phone.

I really hope they introduce a new iPod Touch this week. I know it’s a slim chance.

This is a decent price, especially if this actually “new” old stock. For a music player with some app and media capability, this will do a good job. And yes, headphone jack fans can breathe a sigh of relief, whether or not they actually need or want to use that.

However… The newer, seventh gen device is $300 for the 128GB version ($230 for equivalent here), and that changes the game a bit. The older A8 chip in the sixth gen iPod is a 2014 design, running a 1.1 GHz dual-core architecture on a 20 nm process - Lots of tech-speak to say that it is significantly outdated. The seventh gen iPod is still behind, despite being the current model, but its A10 Fusion chip is a 2016 quad-core (ARM big.LITTLE) design on a more efficient 16 nm FinFet process, at over double the speed. If you want to use apps beyond music, that will be a huge step up, particularly for any games. And even if you don’t, the newer design is more efficient and can run at lower speeds to do the same compute work, which should help with battery life (and longer useful life, since that chip isn’t already End-Of-Life, according to Apple). Plus newer Wi-Fi and BlueTooth specs help.

Save some money and get a great portable music player. Or buy one with a little more performance, and something left in the tank as far as continued support goes. A good deal doesn’t become less good just because there is something better available that costs more

While these iPods seem attractive, don’t forget they are no longer supported and will not run anything newer than IOS 12. Grade A refurbished iPod 7s are available on eBay for $159 for 32GB.

To “andthentherewerenon” :

thank you for your informational post, it is a very useful one and rather brilliant—with careful thought on display. I still use one of these iPods occasionally and it still works and the battery life seems hardly diminished from when it was new. I agree with all of your points.

And, I am familiar with the quote you use as your Woot name and I admire you for reminding us of the consequences of doing little to protect the first victims when the Devil is loose in the world.

So really why an ipod touch when you can do the same with an Iphone. Do you really need two devices?

I would get this to replace my iPod Classic bought in 2006 but that’s a 160GB hard drive and I couldn’t transfer everything over :w_worried:

So is this like the Ipad which will ring as a phone when someone calls? In other words, if I am outside listening to the IPod, and I don’t have my phone, will I receive a call on this also? My Ipad does that!

PRICE DROP!!! If you made a purchased at the higher price, you’ll see a refund on your method of payment later today or early tomorrow.

Just noticed that kind gentleman  as I just bought one after realizing my iPod Classic is 120GB

What is the deal? Why the comment?

I was mistaken when I replied to you

Because some of us don’t use an iPhone but have a large library of music files where some are Apple codec encoded files from long before an iPhone even existed.

I would think you’d be better off buying a 128 gig refurb iPhone 6 since you can get them for less than $150. And I’m saying iPhone 6 since that was the last model with the audio jack.

There are some definite advantages to having two devices, the primary of which for many is likely battery life; When you run your iPod out of juice, your phone won’t be dead (which is a huge thing for folks like me, especially given limited phone battery life as it is). Same in the reverse - If your phone is dead, if you have Wi-Fi, you still have iMessage and FaceTime available.

Granted, this solution won’t be for everyone, but consolidating isn’t always without trade-offs.

Your response is appreciated, and I’m glad to help. Can’t really help it, since I work as an IT consultant  … And good literature doesn’t have to be absent from out tech-infused world.

Was going to say … don’t bother at this price for something that can’t get iOS updates anymore. But, then, PRICE DROP, so maybe more tempting. I have to say these are fantastic little devices. I have one but an older generation. It’s incredibly thin and light because, well, not a phone! In my opinion one of the sleekest coolest devices that Apple made in the good ol’ days before we all needed $1000 phones bigger than our head.

Again, biggest concern is that you can’t run the current iOS and this means certain apps won’t work or won’t update. For basic stuff, music playing (with 3.5mm, yay!) and other tasks, yes, a great little device.

EDIT: Damnit I want the 128GB in Pink and that’s the one combo that’s not available!

the Iphone 6S is the last model with the earphone jack…

Seriously thinking about this. My car’s audio system plays better with Apple devices than Android or USB thumb drives. My only problem with iTunes is it exports music at slightly less than CD quality.

Since Google Play Music is being retired and YouTube Music is purely streaming, are there any alternatives to iTunes for buying digital singles and albums? Something that lets one export the songs to high quality MP3 or some other format common on dedicated music players?
