I’ve owned one for a while – I probably got it from a Woot – and they work pretty well, but there’s no way to really clean the hose or the tool, and they get pretty cruddy and stinky over time. The hose works better than the built-in scrubber. If you use the scrubber, you’re left with a nice clean circle in the middle of your carpet or rug, the bulk of which isn’t nearly as clean.

I have one and I’ve loved it. It doesn’t get a whole lot of use but it has worked just fine. I think it might be losing suction but it will still clean – it just leaves the carpet a little soggy nowadays.

Have owned and used two of these over the past 10 years. They work great but mostly all the models have a similar problem in that the tank cap starts to leak fairly quickly, which causes many people to get rid of the whole unit. This cap can be replaced for about $3 (plus abother $3-4 for shipping) if you know where to find it (i’ve found them in the past on Rakuten: Online & In-Store Cash Back | Shop 3,500 Stores! and some vacuum supply stores). Amazon has them here

Another thing about the soggy carpet and the clean wet circles it leaves in the carpet: Those circles will end up being black with dirt if you have high-traffic carpets and you don’t cover it.

Thanks to two bulemic cats, I often have paper towels with circle-wet spots on them throughout my condo from time to time. However using the papertowels over the wet spots for a few days does prevent them from becoming large black stained circles

I had one of these for a while; it’s not terrible, but on the whole I’m glad I don’t have it anymore.

The best thing about it, putting it into place and letting it run, is the trickiest thing to use. As stated above, if your carpet isn’t pretty clean to start with, you might end up with a clean circle that looks goofy. If you use the recommended amount of soap, you’ll end up with a circle of hard, crusty carpet. Plan on experimenting a lot with very little soap at first to learn how it works with your situation.

The attached hose suction is only so-so. There’s a lot better out there.

My biggest complaint is that the internal scrubber leaked, so I had to store it where I didn’t care if it leaked, AKA the garage. The garage gets pretty cold at times, which made the external hose stiff. It cracked and I got rid of the thing.

Rug Doctor’s spot cleaner is so much better. The design pretty much can’t leak and the suction is tons more powerful. You can’t just drop it in place and let it run, but that feature on the Bissell was too hard to use anyway.

Have one got here as a refurb - use it mainly with the hose and mostly with a cleaner like simple green sprayed from a bottle so am using just water in it. Zero problems though I do run clean water through it occasionally (can just use faucet into hose). It’s one of those things I would buy again. It’s perfect for keeping up with the old cranky cat that will only throw up on carpet.

I don’t think my pet dog would like getting cleaned by this device. Or did I misunderstand? #confused

I have one of these and have given two as gifts. I think one of these should come with every new puppy. The spot cleaning feature is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

If your complaint is that this leaves clean circles, don’t blame the unit. Clean the rest of the carpet!

As for the dirty hose, I simply run clean water through the unit by putting some water in a bucket or the tub.

To clean the hose/head, fill the kitchen sink with about 1-2" of warm water. Make sure the tank is mostly empty and suck up some of the clean water. Not perfect but it does help cut down the smell.

I’ve had mine about 7 years and I think it works well for cleaning up after my dog. You do need to be careful with the amount of cleaning solution you use (I have best results with Bissell’s recommended product) and use of the circular brush will leave rings in your carpet. The circular brush is convenient when you have an old-stain – one way to get rid of the rings is to use the hand-held brush afterwards. Also, the unit will leak a bit while in storage especially if solution is still in the tank. I keep mine in my utility tub so not my concern. Definitely would buy again – I’m even considering jumping on this deal so I have a ready replacement when mine dies.

I bought one of these from Woot a year or so ago. I have a geriatric cat, so carpet spots are a constant problem. It does a great job in a relatively short amount of time. It’s a bit of a hassle refilling the detergent dispenser for a 2nd or 3rd round because of the foaming, but otherwise, I’d recommend it. Oh wait, I just did to a friend looking to clean up after a dog the other day!

A special-needs dog and two geriatric long-haired cats here, and I couldn’t live without a SpotBot. The dirty-circle thing happens because the carpet cleaner solution leaves residue in the rug, and that attracts and holds dirt. It doesn’t get fully rinsed out if you load carpet cleaner into the SpotBot.

You can avoid that completely if you put your diluted cleaner into a spray bottle to spray the spot, and then just use plain water in the machine. Do that, and the machine will scrub, rinse, and vacuum away the detergent with your rinse water. No residue left.

Been doing this for years. It keeps the innards of the SpotBot fresher too.

It’s to clean up messes the pets leave behind. Like cat puke.

Bought mine on Woot ~year ago and can attest to other comments. Cleans the spot well but suction is so-so that leaves a soaky circle I have to use paper towels to mop up afterwards.

I have puke-prone cats. I burned out a spotbot in about 4 years of very regular use. At this price its totally worth replacing.

Spotbot does tend to leave the floor too moist, but i just unhook the hose to suck the rest up.

Bissel will sell you their “oxy boost” to mix in the tank for extra cleaning. 6 bucks gets you 2 tankfuls. I use half a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and $0.79 goes as far as that 6 would.

I love my SpotBot. It is perfect for cleaning up after my pets and fellow humans.

I’ve used it on wine stains, cat puke and random dirt stains.

I agree that it can leave the area a bit wet, so be attentive to sucking up the extra water, but all in all it is a fabulous product.
