Compu-Pool Salt Water Chlorinator Kit
Still debating whether to pull the trigger. I checked some other sites for other chlorinators, found the Pentair Intellichlor Chlorine Generator for about $460 at http://www.a1poolparts.com/-strse-1167/Pentair-Intellichlor-Chlorine-Generator/Detail.bok it’s for the 20,000 gallon version which is fine because I have a 15,000 gallon pool. Anyone familiar with these, is this a good (better) deal?

Actually never mind, the power center is sold separately for about $310.

I had to do a double-take on this one - why would people own salf-water pools?
don’t know why anyone would own a salf-water pool – but a salt-water pool…why, cuz it’s better than all those durn chemicals…and it just plain feels good…kinda like a warm ocean, don’cha know???

just pulled the trigger after a day of researching. Great timing woot as I’m currently re-doing my pool with pebble sheen and upgrading equipment.

Nope, 20/20 vision here … wonder if it depends on where you log in from … it SHOULDN’T … but it was definitely listed at $69.99 when I checked it (several times). Now listed at $699.99.

Why are people concerned with swimming in fresh water with chlorine, but no on seems to care that there tap water is filled with chlorine and fluoride? (presumably)

FYI for when you put that thing into use: Check this reference link out. I’ve mentioned earlier today a couple of times about the concerns of galvanic action in salt water pools only to fall on deaf ears. There is a definite need to use a grounded sacrificial anode system to help with the damage that can occur in salt pools.

thanks for the headsup! that poolguy is pretty bent on salt chlorinators and the industry, but offers a lot of good info on the subject. For some reason I think the corrosion problems he documents in his blog can be prevented through regular maintenance. I noticed a trend from all the documented pools he snapped photo’s and described in detail of salt corrosion…he started service on those pools after the owners had self-maintained them for a period of time. Perhaps those owners neglected checking the ph levels of the pool or other simple chemistry checks for extended periods of time? Of course salt is corrosive but at the claimed 3500ppm concentration required by this system for normal operation? I’d assume all those pools with stone sourced elements had slipped from proper care which resulted in damage?

I live very close to the ocean, within 2 miles following a major canyon and frequently experience the ocean breeze and moisture. My house is full of limestone, inside and out as well as tiling surrounding the pool, spa, steps, waterline, etc. Before draining my pool, it was maintained through conventional liquid/tablet chlorine. The plaster is original (~18yrs) so it’s rough and hence the pool remodel and equipment upgrading right now. I see the exact same type of corrosion in my limestone at the water line and surrounding my pool and the exterior of my house that poolguy documented on his blog, yet I don’t have a salt chlorinator installed for my pool. I simply live close to the ocean and see the effects of salt in the air. I can live with it and the salt build up naturally occurring at my house isn’t significant enough to raise alarms towards thousands of dollars of unrepairable damage.

Through reading his blog, I will do more research on which heater, pumps, filter unit to purchase that will be compatible or will hold up best to the effects of a salt chlorinator system. I will say that after swimming in a salt chlorinated pool, I’ll never go back to a traditional liquid/tablet chlorinated pool.

Anyone have any recommendations on a very quiet pool pump, and spa jet pump that is also very efficient? Advice on a good heat exchanger and filter system durable to a salt chlorinated system?

I just received mine and it looks like crap. It was obviously used and scratched all over. It was packaged terribly with just a thin cardboard sheath around the original box. The box was torn and it was partially falling out when Fed-Ex delivered it. The product has scratches and black scuff marks all over it that did not happen in shipping. You can also see where it was connected and disconnected as there are salt deposits on it as well. Did these say they were used or refurbished?

I just got mine also. I didn’t have any of the issues that you described, but mine didn’t have the angle connectors. Not that this is a big deal, but if it was supposed to have them… well you know. Mine did look new.

Mine didn’t have the angle connectors also. I went to Home Depot and bought some no problem. It only came with 1 page instructions that don’t tell you how to set it up for 110v! Does anybody know what to change internally to set it up for 110v???

No connectors here either. Mine seemed a little banged up while being shipped (coulda had a better packing job) and the package weighing 26 lbs. I’m surprised with the packaging job it wasn’t worse. As for the 110V connection instructions mine were on the outer box inside the packing list enclosed- maybe check that. Looking at the instructions, I’m not impressed but that one isn’t on Woot. One additional piece of information I noticed someone blackened out the warranty in the back of the manual and I recommend everyone who bought one to fill in the information from Woot’s listing as I have that the warranty for this item is as follows:
Warranty: 2 Years on Power Controller 1 Year Full Warranty on Cell, 4 Years Pro-rated on Cell by Compu-Pool

Everyone be safe- have a fun summer and good luck with this item!

anyone rewired it from 240 to 115V? The jumper settings of the manual are not making much sense when compared with how it is currently wired :frowning:

If you have, i would appericate if you could send a photo of your wiring to thedutt at yahoo.com

Just called the company, please note that some of hte units that were shipped in texas were not Convertible! If you are trying to convert your box from 240 to 120 and scratching your head, its not you!!! Give them a call at 936-372-1516 and they will swap out your control unit.

This is follow-up to my own post. Woot and their customer service people have been great and all is good now. Evan from Woot was very helpful and so was the manufacturer. Good things come to those who Woot.
