Alright, who wants to tell me how this compares to a kitchenaid artesian or pro 5 that have been all over black friday sales but sold out
a general comparison. I don’t have one. but the review is on point. Cuisinart vs. KitchenAid Stand Mixers (12 Key Differences) - Prudent Reviews
Thanks! I actually just found the kitchenaid I wanted from best buy, so I pulled the trigger (parents reallllllyyy wanted to buy my wife and I a mixer)
What color did you get?
I was a chef for 30 years, and I prefer this to a new kitchen aid. Kitchen aids that are 20 or more years older are awesome, but not the same anymore. This will do any job you need, and save you a lot of money. I use mine daily to make all types of bread, along with many other tasks. Never lets me down.
I purchased a KitchenAid stand mixer for my wife more than a decade ago and you cannot top the quality of these units. Since then I’ve also purchased them for nieces, in-laws and friends and every one is being well-used to this day. Here are a few observations:
- You need the extra weight for stability when mixing heavier doughs, and that also translates into improved durability.
- Since they have been made in the USA for 100 years now, the availability of parts and accessories is not matched by any other mixer - this is especially important as the years go by. Frankly you will never know if you can get your Cuisinart mixer fixed after they’ve moved on to another model. If you are considering a stand mixer as a long-term appliance (possibly even something you may hand down to the next generation or two), then that fact alone makes the KitchenAid stand above any other.
- If you plan to also use your mixer as a hub for other tools, then even the oldest KitchenAid attachments will work with today’s models.
- My advice is to also look at refurbished KitchenAid mixers. Every one I bought was a factory-refurbished unit and every one looks and works like brand-new.
Here’s a good explanation that says it much better than I can: KitchenAid Mixer Review (Is It Worth the High Price?) - Prudent Reviews
Hope this helps!
Anyone who needs to justify the extra cost of a Kitchenaid mixer to their farmer spouse, all you have to say is the Kitchenaid has a PTO.
Long time cook here. Happy with my ten year old KitchenAid but Hobart days long gone. If it breaks, doubt a repair would be cost effective if even available.
Few things to consider:
- 90 day warranty run from date of purchase not delivery (Woot - correct me if that’s wrong)
- as with any refurbished or short warranty item, put it through its paces as soon as you can
- recommend pricing any attachments you might be interested in.
CS generally fudges that a bit to allow for shipping/receipt.
I thought I would let you all know, these mixer covers are on sale on the mothership. I have one for all my kitchen appliances (they make designs for each type). It’s nice to keep the dust off your appliances.

Stainless is what the wife wanted!
My mom offered her red one that she got mid 2000s, but it wouldn’t match anything in our kitchen.
Free is usually better than not, but I got a Pro 5 Plus (bowl lift) for $250.
The made in USA and ubiquitous attachments swayed me away from the Cuisinart, but if I was 5 years younger and on a budget, I would have sprung for it.
Congrats!
I’ve got a pale yellow kitchen aid mixer that I bought at the local junk & consignment store for $100. I think it was used once or twice. It was nearly brand new. The lady who sold it said it was too heavy for her to move around.
If I didn’t have that I totally would have gone for one of these. They look pretty nice.
I like the pale yellow!
I got a black and stainless Kitchenaid one last year with the lift, etc from Best Buy pretty dang inexpensive
Watch on Woot, every now and again they will have the attachments. I have gotten at least the apple peeler (peels more than apples)
Solid choice. Unlike the tilt head models, the bowl lifts use an all metal transmission. Granted, the reason for the plastic parts in the tilt-head is as a safety fuse; if something were to bind up the mixer, it will shear before the motor overloads and shorts itself. AFAIK, this design is a carryover from decades past when the KA mixers had smaller motors.
