I ordered a dell Inspiron laptop but received a monitor —is this typical business? I needed the laptop by Monday
If the listing would have been for the monitor, it would have been a pretty good deal. Unfortunately, people who need laptops don’t need monitors. The monitor runs about $220 on Amazon.
This is what I got in my email from Woot today:

Still wish I had gotten the laptop, but a $30 coupon is pretty nice and more than I expected.
I did receive the same email, i returned the monitor last monday still waiting for the refund, but $30 is ok i guess
Just imagine the return shipping costs. Ouch.
You may wish to notice that there has not been one response from someone who actually received the computer. It’s very clear that someone at Woot made an error in the initial offer and that the selling price should have been much higher. Sending monitors was simply damage control.
The $30.00 offer is not okay. It is predicated on your making another purchase at Woot. What Woot should have done to somewhat apologize is to offer a similar new computer at the $160.00 price or credit buyers’ credit cards for what they were billed for their purchase plus an additional $30.00 for each computer they ordered.

The laptop offered at $160 on Woot is $465.00 on the Amazon web page. $305.00 dollar difference. Woot/Amazon gets incredibly lower shipping rates than an individual consumer. The total packing and shipping costs may have run Woot/Amazon $100.00, a savings for the company of $200.00 per unit sold.

The sale should have been a monitor all along but somewhere it got messed up. My guess is a bad sort on an Excel spreadsheet before uploading it to our system.
Our buyer did talk with the vendor. The vendor hunted around but was unable to find a comparable computer in that quantity.
Also, we can’t refund more than what was paid. Doesn’t work that way.

Woot! I sent email 2 days ago and I haven’t received your reply email yet. Refund me, and refund the shipping cost for me, too. Freight forwarder informed me that a monitor weighs about 18lbs. It cost me another $80 shipping fees to pay for your damn screen. Please refund me the cost of goods and shipping costs to me. Oh my Goodness!
I will send the bill of freight forwarder via email. I really want to cry with your carelessness.

I bought 3 “laptops” and got 3 monitors. I have requested to return them. Because of how they were sold to me, they will only send me 1 return slip. The 24 - 48 hour delay is beyond frustrating.
I am tired of dealing with this debacle. Your mistake is being compounded by your byzantine method of handling returns. It isn’t my fault that your records show 3@ instead of 3 separate purchases. I want my refund since there were no laptops to start with. My time counts too.
Hi there. They were shipped on one tracking number.
You can use the one tracking number at UPS and they’ll mark them as 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3.
I placed 3 orders. Now i have been chasing them to send me the return labels. Waiting for 6 days. I have over $500 of credit card debt to pay otherwise i will incur interest. I don’t drive and don’t have a car. They screwed up my mother’s day gift for wife and mother in law. I lived in 5 countries never seen such a service. If anyone interested to start a small claim court against them feel free to contact me. I’m giving them till tomorrow end of day if this isn’t all fixed i will take legal action.
You can ask Woot to set up a UPS pickup.
