All right WOOT! you win. You have worn me out trying to resist the temptation to buy one of these targets. You win, dang it, you win!
In for one.
Getting tired of seeing these. Really wish Woot would get some better products in the sport section.
IN B 4 SPOTTING SCOPES AS NEXT DEAL.
30 yard minimum seems a bit much for pistol targets. Is that pretty standard for these types of targets or is this just how they rate these things for so many rounds? I bought something like one of these spinner type targets from walmart for $15. Didn’t pay attention to distance recommendation or caliber rating and shot at it with all kinds of ammo from .22LR to .40 from about 10-15 yard. While it is pretty marked up, it is still holding together fine… except for where I hit the pole that supports it, but that is just a little bent. I wouldn’t mind getting one of these bounce back type targets, but wonder if it would be like my other one or if I’ll destroy it shooting from 15 yards or so.
i bought the .38/.44 one in the last sale, and it is great!. Hitting it with a .45ACP knocks it over like it should at 25 yards without a problem. Be prepared to hit it with a spray can with some more paint after every session if you are using fmj rounds.
I picked up the yellow body shot a few weeks back and then got the red one for .22 plinking during last week’s woot-off.
These things have been fantastic and were only a fraction on the price they go for elsewhere.
Like any other steel target, they need to be hit with a paint can afterwards but they’re built like tanks and should provide years of enjoyment.
Stay within the suggested caliber a for each model and they will last. The range suggestion is more for safety than anything else. Get within 15 yards on any steel target and you risk bounce back. Make sure you always wear protective gear and you’ll be fine.
Trying to resist buying more… Ugh
Well… That’s that. Just bought another .38/.44
i bought 2 38/44 body shots, 1 38/44 spinner and 1 22 body shot when they were first offered. took the 38/44 targets out the next weekend, work great!!!
i even ordered another 38/44 spinner and 22 body shot recently, these things are well worth the price delivered!!! they are heavy, and you couldn’t get the scrap steel, and have it welded up to duplicate these for under $100!!!
i also traced the shape of the body portion, so if it does get shot up, i can go to a scrap place and have some cut out in the basic shape, to use in the holder part.
i also bought some 3.33" round labels and print out my own stickers to replace the orange stickers that came with the targets, they get shot up quick.
the 38/44 body shot can take some hits from a 50AE as well!!! very impressed!!
I bought three of the .38/.44 body targets and took them out last weekend. Lots of fun. The targets sit in the base very loosely (so much so that I managed to knock one out of the base with a mere 9mm), so I doubt any kind of close range ricochet back towards the shooter is likely to happen. Also, the bases look like the will fit any kind of metal target up to 1/2" thick, and the springs are strong, so if you manage to destroy the included target, just drop in a new steel plate.
I bought three the last time these came around and they worked like a charm. The paint was gone immediately, but even after about 600 rounds of 9mm and 200 rounds of .45 (all FMJ rounds) from 10-15 yards, there was no spawling or dents, just knocking the paint off. Hit them with spray cans and you’re good to go.
The minimum recommended safe distance for ALL steel targets is always really far. However–and no, don’t take my word for this as it’s not a recommendation, merely an example of what me and other have done–if you (like you should!) wear good eye protection, then we had no issues shooting at 10-15 yards.
These are a fantastic deal for 1/3 sized-targets, and shooting steel is far more satisfying that shooting paper.
a pistol target rated for a minimum distance of 90 feet?
If your attacker is 90 feet away from you you should be running away, not shooting.
Most ranges (at least where I live), don’t allow shooting metal targets from less than 30-50 yards. The range I am a member of had a ricochet injury a few years back and, after the lawyers were through, this rule was adopted.
Having said that, I bought all three of these and can’t recommend them highly enough. All three of them are very beefy. I used to work as a machinist and doubt you would be able to even buy the materials to build one for this price. I also shoot at the silhouette rated for up to .44 with my .45 when I am out field shooting and have no problems. The spinner target I have put some dents in by shooting too close but… I still do it.
Do not be shooting at metal targets from a range closer that the minimum recommended or with calibers other than recommended.
I have seen the results of the ricochet. You will not enjoy the trip to the ER and the trip to the morgue will be even worse.
