ECOBEE Thermostat issue [resolved]

Just wanted to give everyone some notice to be careful when purchasing ecobee thermostats from Woot. I purchased 2 and have issue’s with both of them.

The first, major issue, is one of the units is not a valid thermostat at all, it is a demo unit, not meant for resale. I confirmed this with ecobee support (via the serial number) and have an email from them to support this as well.

The second one was not properly reset, and has a user access code from the previous owner. All functions are locked, and I need ecobee support to release the code, which they need approval from the prior owner before doing so (I am hoping this gets resolved)

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, my renovation was delayed and didn’t get to install them when planned. I recently installed them and discovered the issue but is outside the 30 days, and Woot basically said “too bad”. The fact that they sold a demo unit - that is not for resale - is disturbing, and honestly they should honor outside the 30 day window.

Clearly the verification on refurbished / used products has some holes, just wanted to give people a heads up on the thermostats.

Hi there. We’re aware that some units from one sale ended up being demo unit. They were sold to our vendor by Ecobee and it’s impossible to tell just from looking at the units.

I checked in with CS and they’ll be contacting you.
