Fire TV Stick 4K streaming device with Alexa Voice Remote

Woot mother Amazon makes it painful to understand the differences between generations of its FireTV devices. Their developer FireTV comparison is helpful, but incomplete.

I’m sure others will correct me if I’m wrong…

There is only one generation of “FireTV 4K Stick”, released in 2018. Todays Woot deal is the same latest model. (Yes there’s a new model in the lineup, the “4K Max”, but Amazon still sells this original gen Stick as the “4K”. The “4K Max” slightly bumps the cpu, adds wifi6, and like the Cube, Picture in Picture)

The only difference between this Woot “4K”package and the latest “4K” package currently being sold at Amazon? The Remote.

This Woot deal comes with the 2nd gen Remote while the currently sold FireTV 4K Stick package at Amazon comes with the 3rd gen Remote.

We own two of these Woot version “4K” packages and do not need/want the 3rd gen Remote. The 3rd gen Remote adds dedicated buttons for PrimeTV and other channels, like ROKU remotes. We never touch those dedicated buttons on our ROKU remotes - they get in the way. Clearly Amazon released the 3rd gen Remote to collect kickback revenue from the button channel providers.

This $23 deal is solid. The lowest deal I recall was $20 for an Amazon deal of the day. Of course they’ve been cheaper yet with promo packages like $25 credits from Amazon when they drop support of the FireTV app from your SmartTV or DVD player.
