From the reviews I’ve read, it made me not want to buy it because they all keep saying, “The machine works well, but the coffee is meh.”
But then I thought, these are people who drink coffee for a living. Their standards are pretty high, no? Us average cup-in-the-morning types probably wouldn’t notice if it’s not amazingly good.
I’ve actually been looking around for a single serve machine the past couple weeks, so this was convienent. I’m in.
Italiancousin, I bought this for my wife who has el’cheapo coffee maker and makes her tea da’ole fashion way. So it’s a “step up” for her. The smaller size of the pod (the review stated around 50-something) could be an issue, but I guess some techniques could help. As such …
Since you took the time to post this here, I’d be interested in finding out what you offer. Please PM with your site or other contact info. Especially if you do carry some vendors that might offer the slightly smaller pods, or if you have a few brands/flavors you’ve had great success with this unit.
Pods are usually packed (from bean to box) in a Nitrogen environment and on average have a “stay fresh” rating of 18 months with no special storage requirements. While I can’t vouch for these pods and I have no idea who packs them, it’s likely they were packed in Nitrogen…
Yeah, most of us work at coffee tasting plants where we get paid $15 an hour to drink coffee. It’s easy work and it (pun) puts food on the table.
Lol, joking. But if you drink a cup every morning before work, aren’t you too a regular coffee drinker? Or do you drink it for the energy, and not for the flavor?
the review at singleservecoffee.com was lukewarm, at best. what i’ve read about all the single serve units is the fact they make only weak to medium coffee, which just doesn’t do it for me.
i’ve had essentially every kind of coffee maker there is over the last four decades, including vacuum pots, chemex, french press, gaggia espresso, and others. i can’t recall the time i didn’t grind my own beans. i like good coffee.
by far, the best cup of american-style coffee (as opposed to espresso) i’ve ever had is using an aeropress. if you like good coffee, i’ve never found a better way to go.
OTOH, if you just need that morning shot of java to get functioning, a gadget like this might be just right for your jump-start.
One note on this: Timothy’s is switching their pods over to 60mm currently… you could get either the 60mm or the 55mm depending on whether they’ve gotten to that coffee yet
Since you’re (italiancousin) knowledgable about these things…what do you think of the pod holder that’s been mentioned in this thread, and the “make your own pod” page that was linked?
Thanks! I’m trying to decide if I want to take a chance on it for myself. I’ve become a choosy drinker in the last year.
Well, like the guy who owns a coffee pod selling website said: "(Full disclosure: I’m an expert in coffee pod machines because I own an online coffee pod retailer – bettercoffee.com) … " He seems to know an awful lot.
And like the one review that I saw linked to in here was for singleservecoffee.com, and I’m assuming those people drink a lot of coffee as well. If you read through that review, they tried out like 30 cups of coffee on this machine, and I’m guessing they didn’t do it over a 30 day period like I would.
What I mean is, it’s their job to taste and review coffee. Therefore, they taste a heck of a lot more of it than the average Joe (pun intended) and probably have higher standards.
And to answer your other question, I used to just drink it for the jolt, but I’ve been trying to get into the flavour aspect of it lately. I even bought me some fancy flavoured coffee last week! Boy howdy, let me tell you. I may never go back to the Jewel brand 5 pound bucket for $4!
It’s odd that you say that. My boyfriend’s mother tried out a Senseo and her complaint was that it was insanely strong coffee, and she suggested I don’t get one unless I like mud.
Well… when I got my first pod machine, I looked all around for better coffee to put in it. Finding none, I tried to make my own pods. Much mess ensued. After the mess, I started my coffee pod company.
So… if you think founding a company SHOULD be more work then making your own coffee pods, then … well…
If you’re very patient and technically adept, making your own pods works. Better still, there is a product called a “t-sac” (use size 2) which is essentially a filter bag into which you can scoop your own coffee. It wont be as good (as fresh) as a real pod, but I bet it would work in this machine.
LOL Good to know! I think you just sold me. I make my coffee Spanish style, and prefer Puerto Rican coffee. I’m tired of boiling my milk in the microwave. Sounds like a decent machine just for myself and I’ll be satified with what it makes. Thanks for your help!
Hmm… not sure how THAT sold you This machine will give you a mere taste of what’s possible… but that may be enough!
If you are a choosy drinker, you will find the coffee included to be substandard… but lots of other pods to try. Start with Archer Farms at Target (I recommend the Sumatra, Costa Rican, and French Roasts).
True, but you do realise that Microwaves are EXTREMELY deadly? You got that right… it ‘nukes’ anything that is air/organic/flesh/etc… once it’s done nukin’ the stuff it continues to ‘nuke’ away even while you eat/drink it. And the subtle effects to the body, I can only shiver…
www.coffeewhiz.com sells pods (see below as to the issues with this maker) and they seem to all be under $10 for a box. this brand’s pods contained 18 pods, so im not sure about other brands.
EDIT: 18-25 pods depending on flavor. so its probably nice if you like flavored coffee
EDIT2: WTF… its more cost effective to just buy 2 of these things as long as you like all the flavors in this set.
“Each box contains 18 Gourmet Coffee Café coffee, espresso or tea pods”
