any minute a wooter is going to post that āAC units without two hoses are awfulā. I have a similar unit to this one in my home office and it works just fine.
I never understood that, either.
In a two hose system, youāre taking in hot air from outside made hotter by the immediately adjacent hotter exhaust air.
Single hose units use the air inside to cool down the radiator, the air that it just chilled. Itās gotta work harder to cool the room than a unit that uses outside air. Another downside, though not nearly as big, is that it creates a negative pressure environment in the room. If you blow air outside then there needs to be replacement air coming from somewhere else, and thatās often the hot air from outside getting pulled in through the nooks and crannies.
Bottom line though, any AC is better than no AC when itās hot. Single hose portable units are just the least efficient.
Iām kinda bummed because I just bought this brand new from Costco for $500. I could return it and buy this one but I donāt know if Iām comfortable with just a 90-day warranty.
Woot says 12K BTU Costco says 10K,ā¦whatās the actual unit say?
Manufacturing website says 12k cool 10k heat
I placed my one hose portable ac at the top of my room. It sucks hot air from the top of the room out and blows chilled air in. Hot air rises and cold air sinks.

I have a single hose unit in home office which happens to be the warmest room in the house and it gets/stays plenty cool.
@JagoMidnight ā The specs indicate that the COOLING capacity is 12K BTUs and that the HEATING capacity is 10K BTUs.
Two hoses are more efficient and therefore cost less to operate. Any window AC unit rated for the same BTUs will be the most efficient and cost the least to operate. Portable units do work but simply cost more to cool a room as well as a window unit.
Hisense 400 Sq. Ft. Portable Air Conditioner with Remote, AP1219CR1W
this in NOT even the best deal
woot gets an F today
[MOD: Not the same product. Nice try though. ]
While youāre slinging failing grades around, you should check your reading comprehension. Thatās NOT the same model. Wootās (AP70020HR1GD ) includes, as the title says āwith Heatā, your AP1219CR1W does not.
The Hisense AP70020HR1GD Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner
Iām confused⦠this is a dual hose system, so why would someone complain about single hose systems here?
my bad, didnāt read the description closely enough
Iām pulling the trigger. The 2 yr warranty on my newish $600 Friedrich portable is now done, and my $400 window unit as well. Itās either gonna break in 90 days or last several years with proper upkeep. Good reviews for the model and great reviews on the brand. If itās not too much effort, Iād take yours back to Costco and save the money. For the price you could almost get 2 of these.
If the warranty is important to you, note that this oneās warranty will run out in mid-August.
From the Hisence site https://www.hisense-usa.com/air-products/all-air-products/AP70020HR1GD_hisense-portable-air-conditioner
The interesting thing is when you go to that link, go to Support, then click on the AP70020HR1GD DOWNLOAD half way down the page they list the refrigerant as R-32, which is flammable, whereas the specs here list it as R-410A which is not. Of course R32 requires less refrigerant and has lower Global Warming Properties (GWP) than R410a, so Iām kind of hoping that it comes with that since it is more energy efficient.
Regardless, I went ahead and pulled the trigger. For me this is more of an insurance policy as my heatpump is getting old and I will replace it myself when it fails and I can no longer service it, but there is about a 2 week lead-time to get a new one once I order it, plus I can run this sucker off of a generator if and when the power goes outā¦
I have this unit. Two actually. Got them refurbished from Walmart. They work great.
Technically, it is two hose, since there is a drain hose thatās used when in heat mode to remove water.
