Perhaps the term lo fi is changing to incorporate mixes in what are now called background music. Either laid back ambient for rest, with beats/nonlyric hiphop for work or jazzy or somewhere in between. I listen to examples mentioned above: Chillhop, AcidJazz, soo so many jazzy channels to choice from, and others everywhere in-between.
Another fun grouping are the mashups of old timie music with background sounds: check out Nemo’s Dreamscape.
