Is this the touch that will play audible books as well as text-to-speech? If so, this is a fantastic deal. We have several kindles at our house. Since we have Amazon Prime and Amazo unlimited books, audible is s must, as id internet, not just wifi.
Unless you have a Fire, which has its own annoyany, touch with 3g and audible speech is the way to go. I love my paperwhite but it wont play audible books which come free with unlimited. The other amazon devices which play audbke books are much more costly.
My 5th generation fire plays recorded books. It was $49 dollars on sale but has annoying challenges with the type framing.
This could be a fantastic deal if it’s like the one I have which plays audio books!!!
“Read-to-Me
With Text-to-Speech, Kindle can read English-language content out loud to you, including summaries of newspaper and magazine articles, when available from the publisher.”
I am disappointed and I bet they will get a lot of returns. The description said the Kindle’s were “Restored to fully working condition by an Amazon technician.” This is not true. Mine arrived and could not be registered with Amazon. It was running old software that expired 10 months ago. It required an update which you cannot do over-the-air. Download the update file to a PC, connect via USB, transfer the update file, apply the update. None of this was hard for me, but it was not fully working condition as advertised.

So far, so good. Other than a little bit of discoloration on the back, it seems to be just fine. Nothing that would cause any concern. The screen is unblemished, and after charging it (the battery was depleted on arrival), I was able to register it with no problems. The 3G seems to work, though I probably won’t use it much since WiFi is just about always nearby.
I guess the firmware is up to date. The update option was greyed out and I never got any warning messages during registration.
Mine has discoloration on the back. Came wrapped in a ziplock bag inside of some packaging material, with a new USB cable. I had to update the firmware in order to register it. These are used or returns, they’re not refurbs. That said, the screen is perfect and it’s working flawlessly with WiFi and 3G. For the price, I really can’t complain – especially since it’s one of the few models that will work with audible.
I would not call this refurbished, mine is extremely scratched. It’s yet to be seen since the battery is dead, whether the screen is scratched but there is an extremely unsettling amount of crud in the crack of between the housing and the screen.
Yuck. Not sure how I feel about that, will update once I see if it turns on or not.
