I don’t see an actual model number (I’m probably just missing it), but do we know if these are 1st or 2nd Generation?

FYI, the Quad HD X1 model here is a pretty stellar deal. You’re getting a 4th gen i5, which right now is only about a year old as opposed to the two years elapsed on the 3rd gen i5. Better power savings out of the 4th gen as well, all for 1000 bucks.

I’d vouch for it. I’m not getting it because I like three year manufacturer warranties, but this is a good deal.

Wouldnt it be better if it had Win8 as the OS since it’s tailored for touchscreens?

Take a look at both of the processors here and here

I’m having trouble figuring out which generation X1 Carbon the more expensive option is. From the processor, it seems like it is the newer generation which has a different keyboard and ports. From the pictures though, it looks like the older generation.

“Different” is putting it nicely. The keyboard on the current-generation X1 Carbons is an abomination.

It looks like the pics only apply to the $899 one and not the $999 one. Shame too, I want the non-flat UltraNav bottoms with the specs of the $999 model. I have a ThinkPad Yoga now and that new pad and flat buttons are not a joy to use.

Just priced the better one of these 2 on the Lenovo site
assuming it is the middle model on this page.

You then need to add another 4GB

Price comes to : $1376
(theoretically $50 more if you want the Windows 7 but some people may say Windows 8 is better.

I did not think Windows 7 supported touch screen, Is this correct?

Hold off on buying these till 10am pacific time.

The HD+ will be a shellshocker deal on newegg at that time. The price could be better.

I use one of these at work, and it’s a stellar device, with one flaw (for me) - I hate, hate, hate, HATE the touchpad. It’s seriously awful. But the keyboard is a delight, and the laptop is great.

Yes! this is absolutely true. I have the current generation X1 (typing on it now) and I’m seriously considering this deal solely to get rid of this excruciating keyboard.

Here’s my review on Lenovo’s site (of the current generation, not the one being sold here):

I just want to compare the specs of the Intel Core i5-4200U 1.6GHz listed here to the Intel Core i7-4600U 2.1GHz that I have now.

That picture also looks like the previous generation. If that’s the model, great.

Does anyone know if it’s easy / possible to swap the hard drive in these? I’ve currently got a 540GB SSD (in my 2nd generation x1) that I’d rather keep.

I think it depends on which model you get. The current gen Quad HD model looks to be using M.2 formfactor for the SSD.

I second the complaint about the new touchpad. I have it on my T440s and it sucks mightily.

How do they weigh the same considering the different batteries? Can I swap out the ssd with a bigger one? I’d grab the 256 from my Acer (which has a stupid mechanical venting system currently breaking).

I got one of these last time around. The screen went white on me which seemed like a lose wire to the graphics card. I unplugged and plugged back in the graphics and i bricked it.
