So, I’m not going to check around for the rest - but if you’re looking at this sale - go shop around. The woot buyers definitely did NOT get the best bang for their buck on this one.
ETA - okay, one more, because I was thinking about buying a Lodge Silicone Hot Handle Holder - Red. This is available at Amazon for $6.95 and qualifies for Prime shipping. (If you have Prime, it’ll be here in 2 days, and save you $4 over woot’s price, including shipping.)
The LDP3 Reversible Grill/Griddle is available at Amazon for $29.97 w/free shipping for Prime members. Better to get from Amazon if you’ve got Prime. Otherwise, not a terrible deal for Wooters.
Cast iron pizza pan is only oven safe to 400°F Really? what happens at 650° F? I run my BBQ up to 650 for pizza. And I have used this pan. Am I going to die?
I bought a large Lodge cast iron skillet a while ago.
The finish was too rough to be usable. Maybe after 20 years of using it, it would be better.
I decided to grab 6 sheets of 120 grit and a couple sheets 240 grit sandpaper for my random orbital sander.
15 minutes later, it was plenty smooth enough to use! I just needed to re-season it.
I also bought the Lodge flat griddle, that didn’t need any re-finishing.
For those considering cast iron cookware and for those who already have some but need to improve the seasoning, a friend sent me this link earlier today.

I looked at the $72 walmart pan. It isn’t the same model number it is the EC7D4W

You are right! It’s a smidge smaller. I will find a correct comparison and update my post. Thanks!
ETA - after checking lodge and following up, the model number at WalMart is EC7D43, and the only difference seems to be that THAT model number is coded for WalMart. All other specs are the same.
Also, the specs for the one for sale here at Woot are off. According to Lodge’s website, this model #EC7D33 is a 7.5 quart, not 7.8.
Thanks to you I got the 7qt dutch oven over at casa.com and even found a 20% off coupon, RMNCASA20. Order total was $45.03, shipping included with delivery scheduled for Valentines Day, sis will love it :).
Just finished some delicious reuben sandwiches on the two-burner grill/griddle (smooth side). It rocks. I also have the smooth press (the “panini” version is ribbed on the bottom), also great- nice and heavy for compressing hot sandwiches and burger patties. The 8.25" press just barely fits in the bottom of a 12" Lodge skillet, for anyone who’s wondering.
I’ve only used the grill side for hot dogs, thus far. Those came out great too. Worth noting that Lodge’s ribbed pan scraper DOES fit on this one also.
Lodge does offer a slightly larger grill/griddle combo, but it’s too large for my apartment-sized stove. Apparently the ribbed scraper does NOT work on the larger grill, by the way.
I own one of the silicone handle grips, and it sucks. Left on the handle, it will get quite hot on the outside. The narrow point near the opening makes it difficult to repeatedly put it on and take it off the handle. I’ve since switched to the “Max temp” handle mitt, and it’s much better.
The silicone “accessory handle” cover also gets hot, but is easy to place and remove as needed.
Shame there aren’t any Woot skillets on sale, I love mine!
In my opinion, the criticism of Lodge over the “Made in China” enameled cookware is a bit overblown. I’m pretty sure they’re still making them here, and shipping the pots/pans to China just to get them enameled. (Start-to-finish production in China would be suicide, knock-offs would already be flooding the market if they did that.)

This statement from the Lodge website that have a partner foundry leads me to believe the entire production of the enameled pans takes place in China:
“Our enameled cast iron is made to our strict specifications by our partner foundry in China.”
It also states they looked for a US partner but were unsuccessful.
All I have to say is that I still have my grandfather’s Lodge fry pan from the 1930s, when my grandparents got married. Take care of it properly and it will outlive you.
