Froogled

i have this, from woot. it works great, and it sips battery juice. range is great and temps seem quite accurate.

edit: one thing i did was open it up and snip the wires that connect the speaker. the recorded voice and occasional beeps were annoying.

Do you actually poke the meat with this?

Stupid question, but do you stick it in the food or on the grill. I’m BBQ-stupid.

My husband thinks I have a wooting problem. I won my first BOC about a month ago and he still thinks I have lost my mind. Wait until he sees this cool gadget I bought to help me with the grillin’. I’ll cook him a big steak… that should shut him up. Good night Woot. Don’t let the monkeys bite.

Own two of them. One for me and one went to my dad. My dads died but mine is still going strong. And i think i paid $30 for it from woot when i did buy it.

looks like there is a rod that goes in the food, then this little gadget stays with you to read the temp of the rod from about 100 feet away.

you carry one with you and the other piece sticks in the meat. You set the type of meat, how you want it done and then it warns you 10 degrees before it is done.

Works great. I bought this from woot on 7/17/09 and it still works today. I am buying another one just in case though…

man, I just bought my parents one of these for about $10 more than this is going for. DOH!

A question for people who have this…you can set the target temp you want correct? It looks like from the product description you can, but I’d like to hear from people who own this if that is true.

Cheers

I use it 2 ways. first, the intended way: stick it in the meat.

second, when i’m smoking meat i leave it in the smoker, along side the meat to keep track of the temperature of the smoker.

works well either way.

“Hey honey! Are you ovulating yet?
Well then, let’s just check the temperature of your BBQ pit. wink
123F? Beef time!”

I wish I had had a remote timer for this!

Is the probe tip-sensitive?
