This is the best tablet you can buy with $239. Galaxy Note 2 would be quite a bit more $.
i have a Motorola xoom that i bought from woot about a year ago, how much of an upgrade is this?
thats what I was thinking…
however I can’t find anything about the xyboard getting Jelly Bean. does anyone know anything about that?
Why is it that all the more expensive tablets can’t put in an SD card. Seriously, I liked being able to take photos on my digital camera and upload them with ease. I wish I never dropped my poor Polaroid PMID701C. That little 50 dollar tablet could do so much…

Very old Moto press releases (8 months or so). TBH I’ll be surprised at this point if it ever comes, and installing custom ROMs on Motorola devices is historically a PITA.

is this worth it, or would something like the galaxy note 2 or nexus 7 be better. even though this is new and not refurb.

G. Note 2 is way more expensive if you’re talking the 10" one, and the Nexus 7 (which I have) is going to run a newer version of Android (so you’ll get Google Now and gesture typing) at the expense of screen real estate. I’ll admit there’s times when 7" feels small, and do not read into that statement at all.

No microSD port.
Is the USB OTG, or just slave?
On the fence.

No personal experience doing it but I have heard this works fine with OTG.
I checked the Motorola site last week when my wife’s DROID RAZR was updated to 4.1.2 and it said that the decision to upgrade the xyboard was still unknown. If it never happens it won’t bother me, my tablet has been running solid since the ICS update.
thanks for that info. I did find that the Xoom (the first model of this tablet you could say, and 1 year older than this) got updated to JB, so I’m surprised the Xyboard doesn’t have JB yet.
I’ve had the Droid 2, and currently have the Droid 4, and i’m not one to really mess around with custom stuff/roms, etc. So I don’t think i’d be too worried about not having JB right away, since my phone still has 4.0.4, which i doubt will change before my phone upgrade eligibility comes in december.
That is if i decide to get this. (the keyboard and case are just gravy, since i’m sure at this price just the tablet is worth it?) though i did see the keyboard goes for $100, and the case is ~$40
Some Youtube reviews are saying it does have a MicroSD slot.
-Can anyone verify this?
-And if so how big of a MircoSD Card does it support?
-Someone said Wifi only, is this fact?
Thanks!
I just pulled the trigger and bought one. Hope it was a good choice.

Does anyone know if the camera is front facing? I haven’t been able to find a clear answer, but the indication is that it is front facing.

It’s always a good idea to read the Specs tab. Good information in that tab.
Me too. Just placed an order. Wanted to get an android tab, had been using wife’s BB playbook…
just clicked the yellow button. hope its all worth the bucks.
New, but WTFF???
Warranty: 30 Day Motorola
It is a very nice hardware platform, but with only 16 GB (more like 13 GB after System files installed) and no SD memory slot, it is not good for much. You can’t load much multimedia on it with that little memory. No Wireless so limited ability to web surf on the go. No navigation on the road. You’d be much better off with a Nexus 7 with 32 GB, WiFi, and wireless for just a little more money than this deal. Just look at it from a functionality angle. There are cheaper and more suitable e-readers around. My opinion – but it is a nice platform.
Does this require a motorola contract or does it use wi fi?
Read the specs tab people… Yes it has wifi.
A tablet without wifi would be like a cell phone without cellular capabilities, just doesn’t happen
If you really need expansion…and you probably do with only 16gb there is this option below:
The camera connection kit is supported on both the 8.2 and 10.1 xyboards, and that supports card readers, USB drives, cameras, ethernet adapters, etc. There is a lot of information on this in the Xoom forum.
So, although there is no slot, you can buy a micro usb camera connection kit (about $20) and there’s your expanded storage.
This would add a little bulk but there you go.
You mean some people actually read adds before buying? Wow…I thought I was the only one ![]()
Interesting possibility, some comparison thoughts:
$239 minus $40 for the accessories you might or might not buy anyway = $199
Pricewise that would compare to selling (sales, etc…) prices of the Samsung Galaxy Tab2 and Nexus 7.
-
Dual core CPU on this as on Tab2, but Nexus has quad core.
-
Moto has an inch bigger display vs the other two. Since one of our tablets is the Tab2, I’d say the 7 inch compactness is nice but the screen is just a bit small for heavy use. (10 inchers make decent laptop alternatives For most most common tasks.)
-
both the Tab2 and this Moto have front and rear cameras while the Nexus has only front facing if that matters to you.
-
both the Tab2 and Nexus have plastic backs vs this one in aluminum.
-
the Tab2 & Nexus 7 are “$249 class” tabs vs this one with an original price of $499. (Edit: does not mean this Moto was ever ‘worth’ $499 - only that it was in that class of tablets.)

I’d worry just a bit what Google’s support plans are for any legacy Motorola device. They bought Motorola as a hedge against Samsung which was getting a bit cocky on Android (especially in phones) for Google’s liking.
As with most things for sale online, this will never be bought at its “retail price” of $499. Price on Amazon is $255 (http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Droid-XYBoard-Tablet-MZ609-16/dp/B00AC7D5FS)–without the keyboard and case, so this is definitely a better deal, but not “52%” better. Let’s just keep this in perspective.
