End of support, not life. I run machines with 7 on them. They still get security updates.
Itās fun buying a laptop for you or your wife and not knowing who it will be for until it arrives
Look at the benchmarks, the 12th Gen i3 has much better scores than the 8th Gen i5 and is a lot more efficient. Also with that you get a machine whose battery is 3 to 4 years newer. Only reason to get the HP is the slightly bigger screen and the extra RAM (both of them have RAM that can for sure be easily upgraded).
Either way the entire point of my original post is that you can find on woot laptops with guaranteed specs that are as good as the best of the bunch in the grab bag for not much more.
I think Iāll just keep my $240 thank you.
Black Friday and the related sales, you could have bought a high end CURRENT lappy twice the price of these
I need this, like yesterday. Or twenty years ago.
Except thatās not exactly what the description says. Admittedly, the description is incredibly unhelpful:
- Intel Core i5-6300U CPU or newer - 50% of customers will receive an i7; 25% of customers will receive an i5 8th gen or newer.
So what we have is:
- 25% - i5 8th or newer - Guaranteed to support Windows 11.
- 25% - mystery processors, probably i5-6300U - Definitely doesnāt officially support 11.
- 50% - i7 processors, generation not specified - Who the hell knows?
So you have a 25% chance of definitely getting Win11 support, 25% chance of positively not supporting (officially) Win11, and 50% chance of getting something that may or may not support Windows 11, depending on the whims of the gods.
I am always several generations behind. I Just got a 4790K, 16 gb ram and a motherboard for free to replace the 3570k setup I was happily using. I can play the games I want, run the application I want and see no need to but a newer gen yet. Forced obsolescence is crap. That was my whole reason for coming back to the PC from Apple world years ago. The year of the Linux desktop will be coming for we soon I guess.
W10 going EOL will push more over, but Windows will still dominate in the corporate world. Path of least resistance for many ā my work included. As much as switching over to a Linux server would have cost less for my boss, I wasnāt about to put my own job on the line if things didnāt work out at planned either.
On the gaming side, Steam OS on desktops? Thatād certainly bring more casual users to the world of Linux.
A BOC is 10 bucksā¦ā¦
Iām pretty sure technically only 8th generation does so yeah the way itās written, only 25% of them are 8th gen.
Having read all posts to this one just now, I canāt believe no one has asked,
āAre you feeling lucky punk?ā
So Iāll be the designated Wooter. (Albeit misquoted ā¦)
Are you feeling lucky, punk?
i donāt even look at a laptop without an RJ-45 anymoreā¦
Yep, I was screwed by WOOT. Extremely heavy Dell with crap for processor and crap for both SSD and regular drive. When will I learn
