I have one of the VertuoPlus machines and love it. 1000x better than a keurig and you can recycle the pods. Heads up, the pods are harder to come by. You have to order them online or find a kiosk near you.
Yep. The reason is that the VertuoLine capsules are under patents, so there aren’t any third party options.
That said, I’ve tried some cheaper capsules for my original Nespresso (now known as Original Line); the quality isn’t the same.
Is the only difference between these two the water tank size?
The REAL question is how HOT is the coffee. What is the temp of the coffee when ready …i want HOT anything less is not REAL coffee.
Then you are going to hate this. This brews at European espresso standard. 190F to 202F after steeping serving is a few degrees cooler. This is also much stronger in flavor than American coffee.
I don’t know what kind of deal this is or what to do about the fact that you can’t get third party pods or how much they are. All I can say is that I spent a couple of weeks at a friend’s house who had one of these and lemme tell you: The coffee was delicious.
Much better than my Keurig single-serve.
The “Vertuo Plus” actually lists prices for about $20 less than the “Vertuo” on the Breville website. Love when companies mess with language things up like that.
These things show up a lot on shopgoodwill very cheap. But the shipping and handling and as-is make this perhaps a better gamble. I suspect the lack of availability of pods is part of it.
What is the cost per cup?
Cost per cup would appear to be about a dollar, based on my survey on Amazon and Nespresso sites. I am not a Nespresso owner (yet), so maybe there are cheaper outlets? Not cheap. I drink coffee from Nespresso Original at job site and it is hands down best, including the espresso I used to pull for myself from a $400 machine.
I have used these in Italy, and pods by various makers are readily available in the grocery stores. They work perfectly.
Have the VertuoPlus. The coffee tastes great, and its super convenient to use.
The pods are about $1.10 each from Amazon or Nespresso themselves, no 3rd party pods available.
Mine had an issue where after 6 months, it started to leak a little coffee around the capsule that would drip down the back of the machine with every brew, just a small amount, but it would collect over time. Just sent it back to Nespresso for service (free shipping both ways) and it seems to be fixed now. And the service was quick.
Thats one of the downsides though, the machine not at all serviceable by the customer because everything is pretty much sealed up.
I was a faithful Keurig user for years, but their products just started having too many reliability issues. I used a Nespresso while staying at a hotel, came home, bought the Breville Vertuo Chrome about two years ago and found it to be a fantastic purchase on sale at BB&B for about $110.
I am unable to comment on the refurbished, but the Nespresso brand is very strong and I suspect you’ll get a solid product.
The pods start at $1.10 per cup, in sleeves of ten, and go up to $1.50 for some limited edition flavors. You can buy them on Amazon or at the Nespresso website or store. Pricing never varies no matter where you buy them. If you buy enough from Nespresso, the shipping is free, and they often have deals where you but xx number of sleeves and get two free, or free coffee mugs, etc. They will also send you pre-labeled re-cycle bags you take to the UPS store to return for recycling at no charge.
I have not bothered to test how hot the coffee is, but suffice it to say it’s too hot to sip right away without it scalding your mouth. I use Bodum double-wall thermo coffee cups to keep the coffee hot.
Not a big fan of spending $1 for a cup of home brew, but it’s just far away and the best coffee you can make a home for a buck and still wake up each day knowing the coffee maker won’t fail you.
K-cups are good for convenience, but not so much for great quality.
The VertuoLine is under patents, so currently there are no third party options. I have an original one; the third party capsules don’t quite match the quality of the original Nespresso.
Still better than $3 for a cup at a coffee shop!
I bought Death Wish coffee before it was available on Amazon, and it came in Nespresso cups. Which was annoying, since I didn’t have a nespresso machine. Looks like they’ve gotten rid of them, though.
Buy better coffee. Takes some looking around, but there is good stuff. Black Rifle coffee co has some good ones.
Hard part is finding one you like, since you can’t sample it. I just buy random small packs of them to see what I like.
Those would be for the original Nespresso, not the current Vertuo machines.
The brewing method is the limiting factor. Keurig’s pump is nowhere near the level of the espresso-type machines.
I have a machine which I bought from W&S and paid a few hundred. its the best coffee out there by far. Yes the pods are not cheap but even when I French press with good (expensive) coffee I still miss my Cuban pods from Nespresso. Best pod coffee maker out there by far.
let’s buy it!
