I was wondering why it wasn’t rejected like other Calvin and Hobbes inspired designs were in the past. It’s generally off-limits, as it goes against the creator Bill Watterson’s POV.
@walmazan is one of my favorite artists here and I easily have over 40 of his designs from 5 different shirt sites, but that design … that IMHO, was sinking to a new low.
Really glad that super time want up but was hoping to get a few other “losing” designs that didn’t make the honorable cut.

I’ve never been so torn about a design, because although I couldn’t ever wear a C&H parody, the execution was so darn good. I hope Walmazan will put some of that Goonies love into a different shirt.
Also, thanks Woot for the HM!!
Plus One… great, funny design!
What a fun Monday surprise! Thanks for choosing my Tardis, woot. Congrats to all the HMs!
Where the hell is the snoopy iron maiden mashup?! It was 2 spots from the fog of war above some of these other shirts?! So does voting not actually count? It’s whatever you guys want?
Super disappointed I can’t order that.
HM is editor choice. IT IS NOT, and NEVER HAS BEEN the fogged designs.
This isn’t different from the HM’s that were previously entered in the double take derbies. But now, instead of 3 extra prints (and 4 days of editors choice) from ~100 designs, we get 8-15 EXTRA prints from each derby.
So more Dr. Who and Game of Thrones shirts, awesome! There’s not an overabundance of those anywhere…
Sigh, was just hoping that we’d see an awesome shirt printed.
Finding out how/where HM are picked is impossible to find…
Plus One is actually on navy, the description claims black.
Pic seems fine so I bet it’s fine, I’ll check in to make sure the description’s changed and everything prints as expected.
I just didn’t want anyone to be disappointed if they ordered it thinking it would be black. It does look like it’s supposed to.
The editors pick the ones they like. There aren’t criteria listed anywhere for what they’ll prefer, other than it had to be entered, and it has to meet shirt.Woot printing standards. Previously, a design that was rejected for violating the derby rules got an HM.
Practically drooling over some of these designs. It really lifts my spirits after a craptastic start at work. Thanks woot <3

I feel like Woot dodged a bullet–or rather several bullets–with this one, but it was a bullet barrage that never should have had to have been dodged.
Because he had multiple entries in this derby, Woot got to print a Walmazan design, and those always sell well. (and with good reason, I think I have at least a dozen of his designs in my closet). Which helps them dodge the bullet of possibly offending a popular artist by rejecting his design.
The Goonies design itself did not rank in the top three, so they didn’t have to print it because the current voting base liked it, but not quite enough to push it into win category.
The HM/New Designs prints started this Monday, which meant they could have easily offended the other artists here by breaking a long standing tradition of actually respecting Watterson’s wishes by just going full Teefury and printing the parody anyway.
The truth is though, I had a prepped response if it did get printed in the HM’s/New Design thing, because I more than half expected them to just go ahead and do it. I am pleasantly surprised and relieved that it didn’t print (as much as I like Walmazan designs).
But it is still deeply troubling to me that they would let it go without rejecting it out of hand. Old Woot would’ve.
I’ve said my piece on this, but I agree simply because the voters feel this way; Watterson’s wishes seem unreasonable to me.
ANYHOO, I wouldn’t take it as a foregone conclusion that all of his shirts sell well. See numbers for Gallows Humor.
So, if enough people think it’s ok, then your personal wishes are irrelevant?
That’s a pretty scary way to think.

It’s more that I defer to the community. Keep in mind Bluejester had a bullet chambered and ready to fire IN CASE they printed it. Seems kinda egotistical to continue to argue my position in spite of overwhelming sentiment to the contrary. I never changed my mind tho and I said as much.
Edit: Never mind. Our opinions differ, I’m sorry that I replied at all.
