(NEW) Google Nest Hub Max, Chalk (Open Box)

I sent an email to support cause the unit I received was a display unit stuck in the retail demo mode. I wish I could figure out how to remove that but it seems it’s not possible. Ugh

Retail units can’t be reset to full function, according to multiple topics on Reddit and elsewhere. The store demo mode should clearly indicate demo, not the “Welcome to Nest Hub Max” title screen with four demo video tiles, and “Learn more” and “Tell us what you think” buttons AFAIK (not entirely certain).

I just received my Google Next Hub Max from Woot, it appears to have seen some use, there’s a tiny scratch on teh screen. (I don’t mind, I got it for a deep discount.) Worse, it is not detected by the Home app on three separate iOS devices, after > 30 minutes trying. The factory reset procedure, hold down both VOL buttons for 10 seconds, fails to rest it. VOL buttons work, both make VOL UP and VOL DOWN sounds. Disconnecting power for > 30 seconds also fails.

Very unhappy Wooter here. “New (open box)” should not be “semi-New, non-functional.” #FAIL for Woot/Amazon (it has Amazon “you’ve given this product new life” stickers).

Hi there- so sorry to hear this. Please reach out to Woot! Customer Service. To speed things up, let them know if you prefer a return/refund or a replacement (if possible).

Please allow 24-48h for them to respond.

Browser: Use the Woot! Customer Service form.

Woot! App: Choose Account from the bottom navigation and then Support.

Self-Return: Items without Li-Ion batteries can be self-returned within 30 days. Go to your Order Details to get started. The return label will be emailed from UPS, not Woot.

Note: Woot! Customer Service replies go to the email address on your Woot! account, not your Amazon login email if used/different.

Thanks, I did a self-return, shipped this morning. I can’t realistically expect Amazon to functionally check an item by adding it to a Home (plug in, turn on, screen works? pass), though there was the tiniest scratch on the screen that would fail it for a “like new” test. It powered on, but would not reset, suggesting some unseen fault. Oh well, waiting for the next one on Woot, or watching the Mothership for a similar deal.

I can confirm that when it started up, the sound was NICE. Nice bright screen, too. I like the idea of a touchscreen Home device, Nest cam for the room, and Chromecast capability to be in a speaker group. Perfect for the kitchen IMHO.
