OK, so I just purchased this three weeks ago at a major electronic retailer. They told me that the ninja was one of the best. To me, it’s pretty basic. There are pros to this coffeemaker like the specialty brew, iced coffee, bolder coffee, etc.
The cons are, you will never get a full pot of coffee even when choosing the full pot option. The same goes with all the other options. Because of their “special brewing technolog”, you lose a lot. Let’s say for instance, you want to make a pot of iced coffee. For a full pot you’re going to have to run it 2 1/2 times. Basically, a full pot x2 and then One half pot brew. It is also extremely loud and really no faster than others on the market with the same features. Kind of ironic since they use the name, ninja.
I have a Hamilton Beach that has all of the same options and the only reason I even looked at a new coffee maker was because it took about 10 minutes to brew a full pot. Since you have to brew several pots to get a full pot, depending on your brew selection, it’s basically the same. After purchasing this coffee maker, the next day my husband bought a Bunn. The only reason we kept this coffeemaker was for iced coffee in the summer. Yeah, $150 for brewing iced coffee, LOL.
I would give this coffeemaker basically a 5/10 and would suggest going for the Hamilton Beach model that is exactly the same for less.
Oh, one last thing. Unlike basically all other coffee makers, with this coffee maker, you cannot turn the burner on again to keep the coffee warm for a longer period after that two hours is up after brewing your pot of coffee. Another major con especially for myself.
I have one of these. It makes a great cup of coffee and has cool options like specialty brew and iced coffee, single cup, travel mug, half carafe, or full. The carafe is well insulated and keeps coffee hot for a while, but there is not heating element to reheat the coffee (or keep it hot longer than a few hours). If you only need to brew one cup at a time the water reservior holds several cups and actually detaches from the machine for easy refilling. The mesh filter gets the job done if you done mind dumping the last sip of coffee sediment - otherwise you can use cone paper filters in this thing.
I also used to have a Hamilton beach machine that brewed single cups or a whole pot. That was similar in a lot of ways but began leaking from the reservior after about a year. Also you had to fill the reservior each time you used it.
CON: When making one cup, this thing splatters like crazy. I wonder if anyone else has this issue? I have to wipe up coffee splatter every morning. On carafe or travel mug that issue does not exist.
I have one and if you want to extend the warming pad, when it goes off, push one of the brew buttons then push it again to turn it off so it won’t brew. The push the button that says keep warm. The plate will turn on.
“You can change the Precise Temp Warming Plate time from 0 to 4 Hours. To do this, simply press and hold the the Stay Warm Button for 5 seconds. When the clock begins to flash, use the H and M buttons to increase the hours and minutes to your desired time. When the clock stops flashing, your time is set.”
It is pricey, but it makes some darn good coffee. It made sense for us as my wife is able to make a single cup in the AM using our own coffee and not the K-Cups.
I also do not drink hot coffee…ever. This makes fantastic iced coffee!
Between not using K-Cups and almost daily Dunkin runs, has made it well worth it.
If you want to make a pot of iced coffee you’re supposed to fill the carafe with ice before you brew, which leaves you very close to a full pot once the brew is done in my experience.
I bought this last time is was available on Woot. While it makes reasonably good coffee, I am pretty disappointed. Didn’t realize “a pot” is only 8-10 cups, unlike my former reliable Mr. Coffee which made a full 12 cups. Super dislike having to keep pushing the brew button to get a full pot. Also am not happy with the noise and the unbelievable amount of steam which comes out of the maker while it is brewing, especially at the end. Had to move it from under our cabinet since I am pretty sure massive amounts of steam aren’t good for wood cabinets.
I do like the specialty brews and am hoping we use them more this spring. For now though, the negatives outweigh the this one little advantage.
I am a coffee snob; let’s just get that out of the way. With that caveat, let me say that coffee that has been sitting on a warmer for any length of time is going to be compromised. Coffee is best enjoyed fresh. If this is really a concern for you, heat it up in the microwave. If you think the taste of two-hour-old coffee is acceptable (and I’m not judging…) then a quick zap will be fine. (And, really, you could just brew extra, stick it in the fridge, and microwave it as needed. Just don’t offer any to me!)
This doesn’t keep coffee warm for even an hour. I was hoping it would be a good option to let me set the pot near me but after 30 minutes the coffee was already getting cold.
