Philips SoundBar Cinema Speakers

I bought this last time it was available. It has great sound once I was able to turn it on. This system will only turn on by using the remote. The remote did not come with a battery and it took me some researching to figure out what battery it used. BTW, it uses a CR2025 battery.

Why did I have to be broke when THIS deal came out? :frowning:

Bought this new from another source. It stopped working after a month.

WOOT! get with the program, the postal service has lifted its ban on shipping lithium batteries overseas.

This should be a quality post for the overseas business as a result of me catching you up to speed…

Does this require a receiver or does it just plug into my TV? All I am looking for is something to be noticeably better than the built in speakers in my TV. With this fit the bill?

Does this come with the sub woofer and is it wireless???

Yes it comes with a sub, not it isnt wireless. I just hooked mine up tonight. I used an optical cord to connect it to my tv, im having some trouble keeping the sound on when i change channels. If there is a lag in the channel change the receiver shuts off and i have to restart it. Any help with that would be greatly appreciated. When it is on, it’s fantastic. Crystal clear sound, a huge upgrade over the tv speakers for a small price.

This does not require a receiver. It accepts the red and white RCA audio cables, or optical. It definitely fits the bill for your use case, as I have the same use case and am very happy with the purchase. The only con, like another poster mentioned, is that the soundbar can only be turned on via the remote (and the remote comes with no battery!!). Lose it and you’re screwed. I wonder if maybe a universal remote could be programmed to turn the soundbar on instead.

Found a comment on the phillips forums that someone was able to get it to work with a harmony 600, but no sign of remote codes to make it easy for you.

Bought this October 15, 2012 from woot and I have still not been able to use it because philips decided they were not going to pack a remote or power cable in my package. After contacting philips 3 times i managed to receive my remote in the mail 2 days ago, but still no power cable. I find it ridiculous that it has been over a month and i still havnt been able to turn on my sound bar to see if it even works. Never purchasing a philips product again.

why dont you contact woot customer service? they are not super great but they will make you whole again…

bought one last time it was on, hooked it up to my living room tv, probably buy another for my basement living room area, sound is decent and easy hookup.

So with the connections I see on the soundbar, I can connect it rca to rca onto my tv, correct? My hdtv doesnt have an optical connection, just making sure I dont end up buying this and my tv wont work with this.

Thanks!

I bought this last time it was on woot not too long ago and was uneasy placing the order because of negative comments by people saying there are better models out there. The better models they were speaking of were well in excess of four times the price of this one though so I chanced it and clicked that button.

My hdtv is an older era: 1hdmi and 1080i and it was pretty high end at the time. So the speakers are not great and everything sounds pretty flat.

While not a mind blowing change, the difference is notable and a great improvement for little cost.

The subwoofer is probably the biggest change and really fills out the room for movies and video games.

The worst part of this is the remote system. It’s another tiny remote with a few buttons with no real indicator of where the volumes are at. so if I come home drunk at 4:44am early on Sunday morning November 18th and turn the TV on, not knowing my roommate had been watching some loud movie during day walker hours, all of the sudden my house is shaking to the infomercial onslaught and everyone in the entire building is mad at me and so I have to not watch tv and post woot comments and I forgot where I was going with this. Hypothetically speaking of course.

Just so you know, buy an all-in-one remote with learning capabilities. This sound bar is not supported by ANY current all-in-ones. This is also recommended because if you lose the OE remote, the cost ~$34 with shipping to replace…

No chance, I lost mine over a month ago. I bought one on my own, then called Philips for their recommendation. Neither all-in-one worked out of the box. Your only hope is to get a “learning” remote as a backup, unless $34 for a new single device 13 button remote sounds good… Just sayin.

Just bought this @ Wal-Mart in store $88 new. My TV is HD but too old to have optical input. Sound bar had to be plugged into DirecTv box to work, using RCA cables (not included). Since my TV speakers are on the back, & it’s mounted on the wall in a corner, the sound just bounced off the back walls. This sound bar has greatly improved our listening experience, for movies, dialog & everything in between. Reviews online said that Logitech universal remote could be programmed to work this sound bar. The included remote is small but that hasn’t been an issue for us.

Purchased one, last month. Set it up recently and found the remote does not work and as such, the system will not turn on.

Very disappointed.

In for one as an upgrade to the stock speaker system on my 60" LG HDTV. Going to have to update this with my results later, lots of positive and negative opinions on this. Expecting the 28" bar to be dwarfed by the HDTV but why not for just $75?
