holy crap, Saxon Brown? I had the lineup wrong but this is a KILLER week. WD, you’re killing us.

You got first and last… for a moment

A small production, sounds pretty promising. Anyone who wants to know how long we should lay these down ought to listen to the vintner’s voicemail, I like his preemptive response!

The Zin performed very well at the 2008 ZAP: The Best Zinfandel in California: Tasting at ZAP 2008(it’s in the “WINES WITH A SCORE AROUND 9.5” section).
edit: I apologize, wrong vintage.

I opened a bottle of Saxon Brown 2007 Black Kite Vineyard Pinot with SWMBO about a year ago and remember enjoying it quite a bit, very well made; rich, smooth though not light at all. This offer is tempting.

Seemed like a no brainer here as well. Ive heard good things about Saxon Brown and look forward to trying them out

Bother. Fortunately for my finances, I have some Pedroncelli for the near term and Scott Harvey for further out, and no way to cellar something for 7 to 10 years.

Please don’t tell me what I’m missing

That being said, the winery’s website listed 7-12yrs for the 2007 One Oak Zin, and so barring any strange circumstances, it would be the same/similar for the 2008.

tempted to try this, this would actually be my first wine woot purchase, can anyone tell me what the Black Tie Icon means? lol

I tried googling, to no avail…

From front page description

Saxon Brown Wines 2008 Zinfandel, One Oak Sonoma Valley:

...

* Cellaring: 7 – 12 years

This is pretty affordable for a “black tie.”

Lucky for me, I have a 77 bottle wine rack in the process of being assembled together, which is just asking to be filled up. Should be a great zin to compare against Laura Zahtila Dry Creek from an earlier woot!

what is a Black Tie?

Most woot wines are in the $10 - $15/bottle range, or about $45 to $50 for the offer. About once a week, something comes along for $20 or more (usually about 2 for $75, actually), generally with a retail/vineyard price of $40 or more. Higher priced, probably better quality, synonymous with “black tie” formality.

The Black Tie indicates the wines are a bit higher priced than the rest of the offerings during the week. Black Ties are just available on Wednesday’s

OH!!~~ thanks guys, i kinda of figured it meant “higher price and quality” but just wanted to make sure

Also, from the vintner voicemail:

“What the hell ya’ saving it for? I’ll make more.”

Also, good description given - definitely not a “Port Zin,” despite the high alcohol. Cool climate, and no residual sugar, so more like a “Claret Zin.”

Can you tell us about cooperage for this Zin?

Thank you.

I’m sticking with it needs to be cellared for 7 years. No cellar == no purchase.

YMMV, of course. In fact, I encourage you to buy them all. That’s the ticket. Buy them all so I can curse the fates that caused a sell-out before I had a chance to buy any.
