Ok product, horrible write up…How oh how is this close to funny woot? I mean even if you look past the recent problems, its not even comical. On a regular week it would be weird and out of place, on this week its in poor taste, and childish.
Worst woot description of they year without a doubt. Grow up.
didn’t really have the idea of looking at chicks through these binoculars and take pictures when i first saw it. but what a great idea! not getting one personally though. isn’t that what they say about computers? i mean aren’t pc’s just used for surfing for porn on the internet? and everybody went out and bought one anyway.
Oh. I though it was a play on an episode of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. But then, I’m under 45.
Poor taste if they did base it on a real shooting, but the “tower sniper” concept has been done enough in fiction that I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.
Any time you see the phrase “clock tower sniper” in fiction, it is a reference to the Univ of TX shooting. And there have been hundreds of references.
Woot is located in Austin, or near-abouts, so they certainly know what they are referencing. However, as locals they have some immunity to charges of being insensitive.
Okay I’ve got a Question: I’ve got reasonably good seats to a Eric Clapton concert coming up . Well…they should be good seats – mid floor. But there’s probably gonna be an Amazon that thinks it’s still the 60’s and not a concert if you don’t stand up in the seat directly in front of me (and I’'m 5’2). Plus, my objective is to be able to look at the final product and know that it is a picture of Slowhand and not a fuzzy, wuzzy, who in the heck knows or cares, cutting room floor reject? So the question is …Can I take a cool picture in a concert lighting venue that I can proudly show my envious friends who wish they could’ve gone without getting busted at the door for trying to smuggle in a camera? if so I’m in for one.
my opinion is that you will need more light than indoor will provide…count on a lot of fuzzy shots before you get the very good one…think of this as shooting thru a telephoto lens…
In spite of all the negativity here, I looked these over, compared prices online, looked at the manufacturer’s website, and decided to woot. The resolution is fine for online posting, but not for printing, I know. But at $30 delivered they’ll be fun for emailing photos of the mountains back to the flatlander relatives in St. Louis.
PLEA FOR HELP: If anyone woots these and decides later they don’t like them, I’d be willing to buy two more as presents for two young nephews. Could only afford one tonight, but will have more cash next week. If you can help, thanks in advance.
Remember: There’s a reason why everyone doesn’t own exactly the same stuff as everyone else.
Its really funny reading some people’s posts on here how they are worried about peeping toms or stalkers or how some are trying to say how hunters don’t really need them…etc.
For those that say they hadden’t ever seen these before, Walmarts been selling them for at least 5 years now here where I live.
I can’t remember how many times i’ve been fishing or hunting and had a camera or binoculars but not both and wished i’d had them available, whether its getting a photo of a fish before you release it back into the water or using the binoculars to look at a herd of deer it all helps to add to the fishing, hunting, hiking or camping experience.
Some here need to return to their knitting or sewing and let the people that want these for legal purposes to get them and go about their way.
The Ad under the wootcast makes me laugh. I mean seriously a place to go and buy coin-operated binoculars that you see at tourist locations? I find it quite entertaining, and wonder if this particular audience has an inclination to buy such things.
As for the idea of needing a camera / binocular combo… this is my thinking (please someone correct me if I’m wrong)
these binoculars have an 8x zoom with 1.3 MP
My old powershot s400 does max res of 2272x1704 (about 3.87 MP) and has an optical zoom of 3x with an additional “digi zoom” of 3.6 making it up to 11x. obviously the digi zoom isn’t a real zoom and just blows up the picture more proportionally.
So to bring my s400 to a an 8x zoom I need to add another 2.66x “digital zoom” to the 3x optical this reduces my resolution by 2.66 bringing it down to 1.45 MP…WHICH IS STILL BETTER THAN THE RES OF THE BINOCULARS…
So my point is these are really no better than just having an average or below average 4MP camera…
