I understand the confusion coming from someone not involved in crafts, but this machine isn’t for hemming your pants. It’ll do that, of course. But this is a sewing/embroidery machine, and programmable at that. It’s like if a regular sewing machine and a gaming PC had a baby.
That said, it is an odd choice for Woot! The market for these things is fairly small. Myself, I’m a crafty gal but I prefer to do what little embroidery I do myself and all I’d use a sewing machine for is the aforementioned hemming. Keep thinking about buying a cheap $100 machine for that, but it’s easier to set pants aside and be lazy about it.

Get the $100 machine. Actually, don’t. Get a better one for $100. Amazon seems to regularly have steals- there’s a brother CS6000i on sale for $150 there now, msrp of $449. When I was shopping for mine, I wound up with a $250 brother for $100, and I love it. I’ve used it for hemming, but I’ve also learned to do more complex alterations on shirts and jackets, and have at this point have done enough that would have cost me at least several hundred dollars if I had taken them to a tailor. Plus, it’s opened up great new worlds of repair and customizations I would have never thought to do, and even if I had would never have wanted to put the necessary money into. I’ve owned it less than a year and it’s payed for itself several times over.
So while this particular machine may be a little unnecessary for most people’s needs, I’ve become a big believer in the idea that everyone should own a sewing machine. Male or female. Being able to modify and repair your own clothes, and even make the occasional thing or two, is very helpful.

Can you create and embroider your own designs and images or is it only pre-made designs? What about photos, logos, or text?

Do a lot of people embroider stuff these days? Back in the 70s my hippie mom had lots of far-out hand-embroidered jeans with daisies, Queen Anne’s lace, and rainbows… I can’t say for sure whether I’ve seen anything embroidered since then. Cool if it’s coming back, but hard to imagine doing $600 worth. Neat machine, though.

Haven’t seen an answer. Is there any modification or add’l software that will let me use this with my Mac???
[/quote]
No I haven’t and I emailed them and they told me to wait 3 more business days. I hope there is not a problem cause I went out and bought embroidery supplies to go with the machine.
