Titleist Pro V1 or V1x Golf Balls–12pk

Hey look, a Previous Sale

Lets look at these good reviews (3.7 out of 5.0) on the Pro V1 over at Amazon

Great reviews (4.8 out of 5.0) on the Pro V1x over at dickssportinggoods.com

[MOD: Those are new.]

Just remember that these are refurbished balls which basically means they are used. I’ve bought some of these off Amazon in the past and the quality is really hit or miss. You could end up with some decent balls, and some that aren’t so good despite the “mint” label.

They seem to cut and scuff much easier than normal balls. I bought some brand new Top Flight balls off Woot about a year ago that play better than the refurbs I bought.

The review for the exact same set of balls is 3/5 on Amazon:

Amazon V1

Woot! You have finally made my father into a wooter with this offer! He bought 3 boxes!

The lower end balls usually have a tougher cover that withstand cuts and scuffs at the sacrifice of spin and feel. So don’t be surprised when expensive balls get damaged more easily, they are supposed to do that.

These are not the same as real pro v 1 balls. read up on them on the page, they do not meet the standards that they did when they were new. These could be balls that were in a pond for a year. I’ve bought reconditioned/refurbished balls bc of the name on them… I’d rather play with lesser quality/cheaper brand new balls as they are of superior quality I once bought a box of I think refurbished balls that said Calloway… Some of the balls weren’t even Calloway, just the new cover said that. The new covers aren’t always perfect, they have rugged edges in some. Honestly, if you want cheap pro v1s go to a nice course during slow periods and walk through high grass and the woods. The balls you’ll find there will be much more playable. These balls would only be a good value if they were priced at $8.99 a box free shipping… $20 total? terrible price for the actual quality IMHO

Yeah, those are good reviews on brand new balls from the manufacturer, not reconditioned balls from ponds that don’t meet the original quality standards

Bad word choices by me. These scuff and cut a lot easier than all balls I’ve played. I’ve played a wide range including V1X’s that my dad had personalized with my name on them. Blurry Proof

I only mentioned the Top Flights because they were balls that I bought off Woot.

I am a 13 handicapper and I have bought these before. The independent study they mention may note only a minimal reduction in performance but my opinion is quite different. First of all, these balls have been repainted, or re-sprayed or resurfaced. If you hand me a dozen new ones and a dozen of these, I will bet you $100 I can tell the difference.

As far as performance, I noticed a Dramatic difference on a mis-hit shot. I assume because the resurfacing is less than perfect, that the spin ratios are dramatically affected as such.

I cannot recommend these and I will not buy these again. I will suck it up and pay full retail which unfortunately is the only other way to buy these balls.

UPDATE: I just realized that someone found a perfect use for the Remington King of Shaves razors they sell on here. They use them to cut the skin tags that you find in every other one of these balls.

The general rule of thumb when dealing with used golf balls is recycled: generally ok, refinished: not good. These are refinished. There is a big difference.

IMO, these aren’t a good idea for anyone. A weekend hacker would be better off with a good budget ball. The majority of the new balls they sell at Walmart are better than these refinished balls. For a better player, these will not perform like new. I promise. I have bought enough of them to know and I don’t care what the head to head testing says. There are balls on the market for $15 - $20 a dozen that are much better option. The Top Flight Gamer is a great example.

I purchased these the last time Woot offered. Played them yesterday for the first time. The 2nd ball out of the box I cracked the cover. CRACKED!!! I haven’t had that happen in 15 years. Now I’m left with 22 unusable rocks. Never again.

I purchased these balls last time woot offered them and they played amazing!! Was skeptical at first but really could not tell the difference between new and the refinished pro V1 . I’m an 8 handicap and have been playing for 30 years. I know my balls… Lol. Seriously though this is an incredible deal on a first quality product. Just bought 3 more dozen.

I have used these for past year. Great value. Perform just like new. Not sure what the fuss is about. If You are a pro like some of these comments indicate you would probably play new balls just for your ego. I am a 10 handicap and have no problem using these. Look and play like new balls. I smile inside when my buddies pull out a new pro v and shank into water and think about how much I saved. Let them pay $4.00 for a new pro v, I’ll pay less than $2 thank you Woot!

Can’t help but notice that the last two posts, korshinator and bogeyguy, haven’t actually bought anything from Woot. And they both gave great reviews within a few minutes of each other. Hmmm . . .

[edit] Searched for “Korshinator” to see what his other two past posts have been. Big surprise - every time he posts, refurbished Pro V1s are being sold.

I have used these balls for the past 2 years and have found nothing wrong with them. They are better than anything else that you will buy new for this price. You may find an occasional ball that is slightly discolored or scuffed after using it for a round, but honestly, if I play 18 holes without losing one ball, I’m happy! Just don’t take them on tour with you, because they are not permitted according to USGA. With that said, they are perfect for every other round of golf you play…just don’t take them out when you tee it up at The Masters.

Unless you are a scratch golfer you should not be playing Pro v’s. Buy some new cheaper balls you will be better off.

If one were to research refinished (read: painted) golf balls, it would be hard to justify purchasing them beyond the status of the “Pro V1” golf ball.

Just my opinion, as a guy that’s bought thousands of golf balls over the years.

Also, I think it’s extremely irresponsible to market this product as “just like new” as these balls are being promoted.
