Not a bad price. I got one a few months ago from Costco on sale, $159. Right now, they are going for $199. I did buy a refurbished Visio (the earlier model) but it was glitchy so sent it back. This version does not those issues. Obviously not high end, but the 5.1 gives me full surround sound, just at time, can tell the central speaker sounds a little canned, but a great economical surround system, that can be adjusted significantly with its remote control.
Do you use the 2 surround speakers in front or rear? And I guess they have to be wired to the center, since it says comes with speaker cable? Using a Yamaha amp. with just 3 speakers in front and sub. but it seems overpowering. I’m wondering if this would be a better choice and provide better surround effect?
The satellite speakers plug into the wireless sub and they usually go behind (rear). So for example you could put the sub behind a couch then have the satellite speakers mounted on either the wall or they also sell satallite speaker stands. Having rear satallites makes a huge difference even compared to more expensive ones that are just the bar, plus having the sub in the rear helps with the overall room filling sound.
I guess you COULD use the satallite speakers in front but that’s how what they’re designed for.
We bought this unit new on black friday.
When you get this, the FIRSt thing you absolutely must do is verify the firmware. If it is not the latest, get a thumb drive ready and make sure you update it. These are notorious for having issues with the original firmware and can only be updated via USB.
For the price, I can’t complain. It does everything you ask it to do.
As far as the rear speakers are concerned, you can absolutely place them in the front, with the main soundbar. There is even a setting for this for this option. It will not, however, give you the fullest surround sound. But if you can’t place them behind you, Vizio thought of that and at least gave you a setting for it.
We also use night mode a lot. This turns down the sub as not to disturb the rest of the house.
Also, we tried speaker stands, but didn’t like them for the rear speakers. So we just command stripped them to wall. So far, no issues.
Can any of you that have these tell me if the main sound bar has mounting screw holes on the rear? I have the previous version mounted to my TV at the bottom and want the same setup.
Sorry for the delay in response (they are now listed as sold out) but there is not mounting screws on the main bar itself.
