Hmmm, yeah it seems like the deal isn’t too great…
Either way, anyone have any personal experience with this? I know woot has had other whistler devices on but they didn’t get that great of a review…
Any suggestions on using a radar detector if your cigarette lighter thingy doesn’t work? Do they come in solar-powered?

Does anyone know the effective range of this? Sometimes with the lower priced devices by the time they let you know there’s a speed trap it’s too late.
I bought two of a very similar model (the 550) from Woot about a year ago. One for me and one for my girlfriend, when they came in one didn’t work. It turned on but it didn’t pick up any kind of signals, kind of a let down.
However the other one works fine in my rural neighborhood. I would say it has picked up about 1/2 of hidden “cars”, and from a pretty good distance (if you are going really fast, way too late though). Of course, if they are behind you or on the other side of a hill not a whole lot of luck. Also, this thing goes bezerk in high traffic areas. It picks up a crazy amount of other signals and becomes really annoying, making it pretty much useless.
I stopped using it, since I need my GPS a lot more… besides I really don’t speed. Still, it is kind of a cool feeling knowing ahead of time where they are!
