Tried emailing woot with no success. I see on the forums there are thousands of others like me. Wish I knew that before I bough the CD key…
Hi there. Please give them 24-48 hours to respond.
Note: Woot! Customer Service replies go to the email address on your Woot! account, not your Amazon login email if used/different.
Is selling such keys legal in US?
They claim that the keys are OEM so presumably yes. If they sold me an actual usable key that was for windows 10 pro as advertised…
You have an email from CS. They’ve ordered a replacement key.
Came here to post about this as well! Ghosted by the first rep I contacted who replied only that the 30-day return window had past. That wasn’t even the question, it was a fraudulent product. Waiting on a reply from my second customer service request.
Call Microsoft and confirm its dead. Thats how I found out it was a WIN 8 key and not a 10…
Ordered a replacement key, yes that is what I was told. Does that mean I will get a physical copy or should I expect it in email?
I received a replacement key from customer service for the previous one that didn’t work. I just tried it. Same error message as before: “The product key you entered didn’t work. Check the product key and try again, or enter a different one. (0xc004f050)” I’m trying to upgrade from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro.
Any idea on what I should do now? Maybe Woot should just refund everyone that has this problem regardless of when they bought it. There seems to be a significant number of dissatisfied customers because of this.
It’ll be in email via the tracking number as before.
Are you copy/pasting the key? If so, could you try typing it in. Another customer said that worked.
I typed it, did not cut/paste and when I called Microsoft and told them the code they said it was a dead windows 8 key, not a working Windows 10 pro like I paid for.
You can buy one of these codes (retail not OEM) for less than $2 from Royal CD Keys or Premium CDKeys. I’ve purchased from both of these sources with success. Heres a price comparison tool
How did you get a hold of customer service? The phone number doesn’t work and the CS rep I first worked with ghosted me and it’s been about 48hrs and I still haven’t heard about my second inquiry.
How is that a legit site? $2 licenses seems too good to be true
The phones are down a lot of the time. Email is your best option, but they’re backlogged so the wait time is a bit longer than usual. I’d give it another day. They’ll respond to the email listed in your Woot account. If it’s different from the one on your Amazon account you’ll need to check that.
Also, make sure you’re contacting them from the account that made the purchase.
(Please Note: I’m not employed by Woot, but I volunteer to help in the forums.)
Most of them negotiate with directly with developers, vendors, etc, and often software codes are not region locked, so they can buy codes cheaper across seas. Code batches are sold when stockpiles are liquidated, or sold in bulk. Sometimes people sell their keys super cheap to quickly get capital for a new set of key codes that may sell better to their usual customer base. There’s a ton of different scenarios, but I honestly don’t ask, I use PayPal when using those websites to be safe and I can vouch for PremiumCDKeys at least. I bought some office codes from them last week and they worked fine. I’ve bought countless games from a variety of the websites listed in cheap digital download, and have never had any issues. There are sometimes specific things like OEM and one time use keys - but win 10 is so old retail keys are also that cheap. Some keys are multi use and people move on to new operating systems and sell their old key. But trust your gut if you would feel better and trust someone selling at a higher price, go for it.
If they sell something different from what they advertise, they are scamming.
In the worst case, you can sue them in the small case court.
