AcuRite 01106M PRO+ 5-in-1 Weather Station

Does the outside module require a wired power or data connection to the indoor module?

I had this exact model and no, it does not require a wired power supply however, I only got about 6 months worth of use out of mine before the rain gauge quit on me then another 2 months later the wind gauge stopped working and after that the temps were all over the place.

A tree branch recently fell on my unit and now I am looking to replace it. Seeing these here at this price is tempting but after the trouble I’ve had with mine I think I’ll pass.

Per my Amazon order history, I have been using a Davis Vantage Vue 6150 for 6yrs. Yes it costs a little more (2-2.5x), but I have only touched it a few times (maybe 2-3) to replace the internal battery (CR123).
So if these “cheaper ones” have to be replaced every year or so, where are you saving money? Granted no trees have fallen on mine.

The thing that the AcuRite brand has going for it is price. Even for direct sales from their web site, they often have big discounts. Since I am cheap, this is the brand I got. My model is similar, but I can’t tell if it’s exactly the same.

Mine has been trouble-free for about a year. I have yet to find out how long the batteries last because they are still going. A couple of small solar panels keep it going during the daylight hours.

If you just want a colorful (or monochrome) display of simple weather data on your wall or counter, these are fine. If you want to be a weather geek via Weather Underground or one of the other sites, AcuRite is not as open or tinkerer friendly as some other brands. People have reverse engineered their protocols so that you can get at most of the data for the models that have USB, but be prepared for some fiddling around and web searching to get things set up. AcuRite basically ignores requests for protocol documentation.

You can also get what they call a bridge that will directly pick up the data from any of their sensors they sell and send it to your phone, tablet, weather under ground etc. I finally got a refurbed one for about 71 shipped and it’s been great and I’ve been sharing to wunderground and my phone since I installed it.
I think they retail for around 80 bucks and do go on sale occasionally, or like he said you can get crafty and make your own device that can do it but that is beyond most budget minded casual users.
