Amazon Fire HD 8" (2016) 16GB Tablet

A more thoughtful review. As a primary portable entertainment device I’d recommend spending more. If you are buying this for kids, parents, office friends or a on the go mass transit, plane travel (Netflix download etc), camping device (I know sacrilege) it’s great for that. I bought two gave them as gifts. One was locked so I had to call amazon, the other won’t update to the lastest firmware so no Alexa. I could call amazon but I don’t really care. Both Ad free!!!
My mom is using it. This is the first time she’s using a computer. Not bad for an immigrant. On that note I regret my harsh last review. For $30 it serves a useful purpose.

Thank You. You are right to point out the problems and nice to give recommendations for this tablet at the $30 price. Too many people may have Too High of Performance Expectations, and will be disappointed by this particular Fire tablet’s limitations of speed and memory. I agree that this 2016 Fire is good as a backup, or extra “guest use”, ebook reader, downloaded videos viewer, or teaching tablet for kids and elders for the $30 price. And to tell the truth, that is all this tablet was good for when they were brand new at full price. Krystal Bella.

Ordered one just before Christmas.
Got it the day after Christmas.

Came in Brown box. But looked new. It constantly updated for at least one whole day. Works great and no Ads.

Reason I got this is because of Alexa.

And ability to use the Micro SD slot. I can carry my whole Shop’s inventory in my hand, while talking to a customer, instead of referring back to a laptop behind the counter.

I will still use my older 8.9 for strictly reading kindle books.
But this is the go to from now on.
Darn, Now I’ve talked myself in to another one, for the shop, and one to travel with.

Is this the exact same thing I ordered from here in mid December, but for $10 more?

These things work great. Far better than off-brand Android tablets.

Looking at your orders, you paid $29.99 for that one as well.

Is this OS upgradeable?

Talked with our Kindle expert here and he thinks you should be able to. He has a Kindle 6 that still gets updates.

Of course, it’s up to Amazon as far as support and updates.

Hope that helps.

Can this run Pokémon Go? I know I’ll have to sideload some stuff. I’d like to tether these to my Hotspot for the kids. Any trainers using one?

Can I use this with Amazon’s ebook?

I had to call Amazon to get it registered. They said that the vendor didn’t do something. They were able to register it for me. Kind of a pain but it’s working now. Very happy with it.

Picked one up for myself last time, I love it. My husband has been suffering tablet envy ever since, so I’m in for one more. Can’t beat $30.

Screen size is great, mainly I use it for movies at the gym, and the “good” quality download is just fine. No issues with the refurbished, looks perfect, works perfectly.

I received mine yesterday and it was dead. Charged it overnight and loaded Netflix. A few minutes into a movie it died. Won’t even turn back on. Now I have a paper weight. Waiting to hear back from Woot.
**Update - Woot responded and their taking care of it. Great customer service!! Thanks Woot!!

Heard this was a great tablet and it was a great price. HIGHLY disappointed though… Tablet was plugged in for 5 hours before attempting to use it. Does not boot unless plugged in. And when it does turn on, it is stuck in a continuous boot sequence loop. Makes me wonder if it was just returned and sent back out to someone else (sans any “refurbishing”). I expected to get something that actually works… Sent an email to customer service, so we’ll see what happens from here.

I just received mine. Included a charger and cable. Looks like a new one. I too needed to call Amazon to get it registered. Seems to work fine. Snappy response. I bought it on whim since it costs so little versus the tablets features, etc. I have two Windows 10 based tablets and much prefer them for general usage. The HD8 will likely be used as it is promoted for: ebook reader, Amazon prime videos, etc.

I bought one in Amazon. The battery was dead after two months.

Yes. eBooks and Prime Videos and Music are super easy to access on these Fire tablets. They automatically populate with all of your past and future Amazon purchases; both paid and free.

Clearly you got a lemon- stuff happens at $30 I suppose. No doubt woot will replace it - it’s not like they are short on stock.

UPDATE: Managed to register it by contacting Amazon support for the second time. This time the amazon support representative was able to register the device to my account even though it was not deregistered before it was sold by the vendor.

Editted: Do NOT purchase these tablets. They can’t be registered with Amazon and are worthless… [etc…]
