BFG Asylum Ti4200 128MB 8x AGP Video Card
There is a one year warranty sticker on the bottom of the card. I have been told that in these cases serial numbers are recorded and these cards will only recieve the 1 year warranty.
ah, I wondered about that. well, at least we got that part right on the 1 year warranty. Anyone got a serial number for a card that I can call into BFG and tell them these were used cards sold as new; I’ll report back what BFG support says for better or worse…

These guys are f@king losers… my card was clearly used, and dead on arrival. I called BFG and I got an RMA to send the card back to them. They told me if they can’t fix the card they would replace it with a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra. I’ll never deal with these assholes again.

Yup, mine had a ripped seal under the new one on the antistatic bag and a nice layer of dust on and inside the fan cavity. It was also missing the manual and DVI to VGA adapter as indicated on the box. I could care less about the manual, but the adapter would’ve been nice.

I wouldn’t necessarily call them crooks, as it was still cheaper than Newegg or anywhere else, but they should’ve at least opened a few and checked.

thanks for everyone’s feedback. so I’m gathering that at least BFG didn’t lie about the warranty. so what’s the comparison for the FX5700 card they said they’d replace it with? anyone have that toms hardware chart handy? that would be nice to have a silver lining…

Anyone have a serial number so we can call and just report a card as used when it was suppose to be new? (ie… working or not) or do they not ask for a serial number?

also - these cards did not come with a DVI to VGA adapter for second monitor dual use (nor was that listed in the spec)

I’ll open up the system and snap a few pics and read the serial number if it’s going to get us somewhere. Otherwise, it’s not worth the hassle to get under the desk and disconnect everything again unless it craps out and I need to RMA it.

It’s Direct X 9 compatable (the 4200 is DX8), and just generally more powerful. This, of course, assumes that both cards have the same amount of onboard RAM. No chart handy, but it’s not really that complicated - a 5700 is preferred of a 4200 because it’s faster and has more features.

ok - looks like 4 or 5 other folks here who can supply one (presuming we don’t have tag along posts for fun here). Right, aarmenaa what I’m getting at is that BFG represented these cards as new and I’m reasonably hopeful that they would make good on someone just calling and saying “hey I got a used card and I want a new one.” If the 5700 were what they offered up, sounds like that’d be decent. Of course I don’t know if they will perform this admirably with their late night CSR folks having to make the call, but I bet we’ll have a good resolution by tomorrow.

Alright, curiosity got the better of me. The copper heatsink on the back gets hot enough to burn the back of my finger, but the fan barely turns. I got some dusty pics and an SN, where do you want it sent?

:x I also got a bad card that was clearly used - with dust on fan, retaped anti-static bag and no dvi connector cord. This is terrible that woot can do this - those of us that got defective cards demand a resolution. Plus does anyone notice that the BFG logo sticker on the fan looks like a cheap knock-off of some sort?? Is it even made by BFG at all??Card would post as a gforceTi4200 but would crash to blue screen with errors upon entering desktop.

Thanks kuoh - either post it here, or email me at snapster@gmail.com. I’ll try calling the BFG customer service night crew here. I suspect they may need some instruction from management in the morning but at least I’ll give them a headstart and follow up tomorrow.

donkinuts, thanks for your feedback. I’m hopeful for a happy resolution.

anyone else having the same concern/issue with used, dead, or crappy looking cards please feel free to join in – this is your chance to yell at woot.

:x
Me too Don’t know if it works but the packaging does not look new, also DVI to VGA connector is missing and was it supposed to have a manual too ?? It has the CD. It has one year warranty sticker at the bottom though.

I also got a used card, the card was not even cleaned before selling it as new!! The used dirty card was jamed into a used bag and re-stickered. The box they used to pack this used crap in is ugly, not like real retail packaging. VERY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER!!
What is Woot going to do now?

I got mine in a used static bag and it didn’t come with manual, or the copper heatsink like the picture, it’s just a small silver color heatsink with fan only covering the gpu and not the memory.

I’m a late night tech at BFG, and I’ve just been alerted to this site. As a tech, I’m not at the position at the moment to make any claims about what is going on here, but I’ve forwarded the info to the necessary people, and I’m sure they’ll take care of it quickly.
As for RMA’s, our cards have full lifetime warranties, and we never charge for repair/replacement. Everyone here stands behind the products 100%. Who else gives lifetime warranties and 24 hour live tech support? (866) BFG-FIXX.
More than this, I don’t know. Someone with more authority than little old me is going to clear things up in short order. I thought it was only fair to tell you guys as soon as possible that we are now aware of it, and not have you thinking we were slacking on this. Hang tight, a fix is in the works. --Kevin, BFG Technical Support.

Snapster, information sent.

My SN sticker also has the numbers 08 02 2003 in big print, presumably the manufacture date, right above the bar code. So much for the one year warranty. :?

Wow, quick response from BFG. Hopefully, something gets sorted out.

Snapster, I sent an email ~ 5:45PM EST to WOOT’s RMA address about getting a refund for my 3 cards (all of them non-functional in one way or another). Can you give me any updated info??

I’d rather just get my money back and go buy something new than to deal with the hassle of going through BFG or whatever.

Hi Kevin, thanks for your post. Feel free to contact me at snapster@gmail.com for additional information, if needed tonight. Otherwise we’ll work to resolve through our regular channel tomorrow.

Scion_tC, I don’t have access to rma email, but you’ve sent it to the proper place. We’ll get back with you tomorrow.

I posted two pictures of the box. Here is the link http://mantis.maddsites.com
I am gonna post some pics of the card itself in a little bit.

I posted pics of the card too, mine looks refurb (because it doesn’t have dust or any signs of usage) and it’s an AGP4x version but it’s working fine. It must gets very hot because it doesn’t have any heatsinks except on GPU.

Same here, on box it says “128mb, AGP, 8X, VGA, TV-Out” but only shows up as BIOS as 4x.
And I am sure i have an 8X mobo, so there’s no restriction there. The HSF on the card looked new however you can tell that a serial number label pre-existed underneath. The contacts on the slot were clearly worn beyond normal testing and the anti-static bags had remnants of an old sticker. My card does work, but I really wish I wasn’t mislead. Not going to point fingers, just want a resolution for this miscommunication.
