After grilling over charcoal for all of my adult life, I purchased a pellet grill similar to this earlier this year, and it has changed my life. I use it several times a week to cook steaks, chicken, pork ribs that are literally falling off the bones. So easy to use, so easy to clean, and the meats come out soooo delicious. I’ll never go back to charcoal. Helpful hint: Traeger pellets burn cleaner…you won’t have to vacuum the firepot as often.

Absolutely love mine! I use it almost as much as my gas grill. Makes smoking like cheating.

The only tip I’d give buyers is to get some silicone to seal around the stainless handle on the pellet hopper door to keep moisture out. I leave it out, uncovered, year round and haven’t had any issues since fixing that pathway for moisture that can ruin pellets.

If I’m spending that much money, I’m just going to get a Mak or a Traeger.

Bought one of the stainless steel models a couple years back. Best investment ever. The missus says my ribs and brisket are better than any we have gotten from the pros. Slow and smokey and take your time. Easy to clean and maintain. Solid. Don’t hesitate to pull the trigger.

This grill is much better then Traeger… just do some research.
Also Cabelas has the jerky racks on sale for this grill… very nice and can do 6 slabs of ribs on the flat!

pretty much anything is better than a traeger.

The hopper and controls are different in 2 of the pictures. What gives?

Some pellet reviews here, the model offered here is the one on top.

Great grill, I’ve had mine over a year and love it. This one has a number of nice upgrades over the traegers, being able to swap out pellets is nice, although I mostly stick with hickory. Durability wise haven’t had any issues. I also silconed around the pellet door handle and it keeps things dry.

Really the only issue I’ve had is I wish it was bigger so I could smoke more bacon at once!

Had my DLX since July, works awesome. Great customer service as well. 3 year warranty as well.

Get the jerky racks they are made very well… and cabelas had them for $39 but only see them for bigger grill now
Expands cook area from 429 sq. in. to 1584 sq. in

Do pellets need to be certified safe for cooking? I just had my heating pellets (New England wood Pellet) delivered and don’t know if there are any unsafe products used.

Don’t use heating pellets. they can have non food safe stuff, and aren’t screened as well for foreign debris that you’d burn and contaminate food with.

Food pellets are plentiful and cheap. Traeger brand pellets are 70% filler wood (oak or alder, which is fine), just like Bear Mountain pellets but bear mountain are 1/2 the price. There are premium pellets that are 100% hardwood for a little more than Traeger brand pellets. Check the pellet smoker/ BBQ nerd forums and stuff.

But never use heating pellets. They aren’t that much cheaper and you don’t know what might have been scooped up into them.

does anyone know if you can buy the sear box attachment for this grill separately?

Meathead Goldwyn from AmazingRibs.com give every camp chef a Gold Medal…and you can get a sear box for 249 to attach to this model. It is as good or even better than Traeger

Yes you can, i think it’s 249 on the camp chef site. the sear box is compatible with most Camp chefs (PG24, woodwind, etc)

According to a really good FB g rpup for camp chef owners, the “Lunberjack” brand is the best on the market

We got the Browning branded version of this Camp Chef smoker. The only difference is it has a stainless steel lid and came with the detachable food rack. If you’re thinking about it, do it. You will not regret it. I frequently have folks tell me my pulled pork or ribs or jerky or brisket are the best they have eaten.

Two recommendations. Get the “jerky rack” shelves. They expand your cooking area quite a bit and get the meat up off the grates for even better indirect heat. Also, get yourself one of the wireless dual probe thermometers. I picked up the ThermoPro TP20 for about $64 on Amazon. Why? I found the probe on the Camp Chef was not accurately reporting temperatures (as in 20 degrees off).

DO IT!
