Woot offers these up often enough so if you pass on them I would not be too concerned, they will be back. Not all of them are Apple compatible. In this bunch only the $69.00 version works with a Mac. I made the mistake of buying the cheap one a few months back and it didn’t say it wouldn’t work with a Mac. Woot was pretty cool about the return and crediting me but even now it doesn’t say “Not compatible with a Mac” which I find odd. Oh well. Happy Halloween of what is left.
Sadly these are not worth it at any price. The first one I purchased never worked and was returned. I purchased another thinking it was just an isolated problem and it has been practically useless. Randomly deleted all files when attempting to download to computer. Gives busy light and won’t function until battery is disharged and then recharged. Crap operating instructions. Waterproof case isn’t waterproof. Don’t waste your money.
I bought these the last time round - the clamp that attaches it to my bike broke, so although I still have the camera, I can’t use it. It worked OK when it worked but I did need to buy third party software to recode the video to stabilize it and remove the barrel distortion of the lens.
Oh - and I almost forgot - Walmart usually has these at a lower price than Woot - badge-engineered as Vivitar but they look identical. Currently they only have the 1080 model but I’ve seen the 720 there at times too. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Vivitar-DVR787BLKKITWM/29531770
Bought one of the wifi ones 2 months ago. Although not the same model. It worked for one outing and now does not charge. Contacted PYLE and have heard nothing. I may be a sucker because I bought one of the real cheap GearPro’s more than a year ago and it quit after a while too. Well, The Who sang a song that I should have paid more attention to.
These are terrible. Bought one the last time they came on here and it would come on and record. Then when I went to play the recording back, it would just freeze. So I returned it to woot for refund. Don’t waste your time or money on these.
To go along with others here… Bought two of the 1080p Wifi models last time. Returned them both. Battery lasted about 12 minutes, cameras would frequently lock up, files would get corrupted, etc. Unfortunately, these are pretty much junk.
I’ve purchased a total of five of these $34.99 models). One was immediately returned because it was out of focus (they are fixed focus, so no adjusting). One I use very rarely and have had no problems. Two are dash cams, which are used daily, and here is the deal: they are sucky and problematic, but usually fixable.
At least once a week, it won’t record because it says the card is full (even though it is supposed to delete old files and keep going ∞). Simple fix: I keep an extra blank card in the car and swap 'em when this happens, then wipe the offending card with a computer (as there is no way to wipe the card with the camera).
A couple of times a week, it goes into “PC Cam” mode and won’t record, won’t go back to regular camera mode. Simple fix: I keep paper clip in the car and reset it (there is a small hole on the bottom).
Would I recommend this? Only if you are willing to put up with all the glitches. If this thing gets stolen, I’m only out about $40, so for me it is worth it (barely).
Also, the cheap ones work with Mac (I’m sure they all do) - just pop out the card and use a card reader.
I found a sample video from the $59 model. Notice the extreme jello effect even when the camera is stationary. I imagine the $69 model is similar in quality.

Same camera as a Vivitar??? Be afraid.
Most, if not all “Vivitar” cameras (once somewhat respected) are now imported by Sakar in NJ, a bottom-feeder in the camera spectrum.
They got hold of a Chinese Android camera that looked a lot like a Nikon ILC and got their tushies sued off by Nikon. I had a chance to use one, and it was -in the Sakar tradition- an unworkable piece of youknowwhat.
They still sell cheapie cameras with no external card storage and if the batteries are removed, all images in memory vanish.
I bought one this past summer (2014) from Woot and after receiving it took the cam to my daughters soccer game to try it out. The unit was in the case, never was dropped, abused, etc., as I said it was brand new. After the cam shot exactly 27 seconds worth of video the screen went fuzzy (like static on an old T.V.). The unit would not power down or respond in any way and the screen only turned off after the battery had drained itself empty. I promptly returned it and found a GoPro2 for cheap online, it has worked like a charm.
I think there’s very little defense to my claim that they are simply hoping you don’t notice as I didn’t. I assumed I was buying an older model of the well known, well respected brand…YOU ARE NOT!
Terrible reviews on these, though I set one up to be a dash cam and it seems to be working fine. I do have to manually turn the thing on every time I start the car, but as a cheap dash cam?
I did buy it as my kid wanted it for skiing this winter. With the reports of 30 min of battery, I have a feeling it will have been a waste, but hoping a backup battery pack will boost it a bit…Just be warned, it ain’t what you are probably thinking.
I would hope most people would know he difference between GoPro and Gear Pro. Are they trying to play on the name, probably, but Not realizing the difference Would be like buying the bag of Tasty-O knock off cereal at the grocery store thinking you are buying Cheerios.
How sad, it sounds like these are such junk. I wonder if Woot should implement a ratings system for the TL;DR crowd. That way people could just see at a glance what others think about it, without having to go through and read all he reviews.
